Description: This is a very very black modification of my slickness theme. I made it cause someone here at gnome-look asked if I could.
New feature since version 0.3: You can now choose colors using gnome theme manager. It is my very first try at something like this so it might not work exactly as planned.
Feedback of any kind is always welcome

Gerva has made a fix that fixes openoffice problems! : http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Openoffice+fix+for+slickness+black+theme?content=77415
Thanks Gerva!Last changelog:
0.1 Fixed some bugs, Improved look of overall look, (should be more usable now) changed look of toolbar and other things.
0.1.1 Fixed a bug where when you renamed a file in nautilus you couldn't see the cursur.
0.2 Changed the colorscheme a little, a bit brighter now (but it's easier to spot some widgets that has focus etc.) Some other minor changes.
0.3 You don't like my colorscheme? choose your own colors in gnome theme manager. (just click restore to defaults if something goes wrong).
0.3.2 Changed default colorscheme again and improved the active/selected/normal colorshading Fixed a bug that made some trayicons to be drawn 1 pixel too low (Many thanks to Moomex for that!!!!!!) ,made some minor tweaking to some elements (ie tabs are smaller now).
0.4 Made new scrollbar-sliders (older ones where hard to spot), made completely new entry style, fixed some uglyness in genereal. new listheaders. (in the first screenshot I use macmenu hack version, but this looks exactly like it except for the menubar ofc)
0.5 Changed the scrollbarsliders a little, removed the shadow from inactive fonts (as requested) ,included a fix for firefox (not mine).
0.5.1 Managed to remove the disabled font shadow on treeview text too, (if you find it someplace else let me know)
0.5.5 Fixed a bug where gimp showed ugly widgets and removed the spacing between metacity buttons.
0.6 Fixed a bug where various apps inherited the toolbar style.
0.6.2 Fixed more bugs... Gimp should look fine now.
0.8 Now comes as a full theme package, Including Taners amazing wallpapaer!! plus I fixed some bugs and improved some stuff.
0.9 You can now have white input boxes (as shown on screenshot 2) cause I changed some color inheritance (combobox now has different inhertitance and cursor in box inherits text color).
Hey, I really love your theme as it looks absolutely gorgeous and I would like to use it for GIMP, I have Windows Developer Preview (its the same as 7) and I use GIMP 2.8, please help me, many thanks.
How do I get the menu bar and tray transparent? Love the theme, this is my only quirk with it. I noticed only some of the themes will make the menu bar and tray transparent along with the gnome-panel its self. But with others the menu and tray stay the system theme color. I have tried and tried to figure a way of adding this to the theme, but nothing. Is there an exception or line I can add to the .rc file or something?
What is that awesome stuff you have on the side? the transparent monitors and such? Can you link me to those???
Your directions were great, smooth and no problems. I don't have your suggested icon theme, but LaGa blackwhite will work until I get it.
Thanks for the hard work it's great!
Hi
thanks for this tutorial but i have got a probleme with it i when i open un terminal and i write :sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/SlicknesS-black /usr/share/themes it gives me:cp: ne peut évaluer `/home/guir/Desktop/SlicknesS-black': Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type
so impossible to continue the installation ...but i have got another methode so i copied the file download of slickness black and i have pasted it all the themmes that i have in my linux mint it has installed but with this error the icon linuxlex balck white is not installed.so please if you have a solution for this i'm new in linux..thanks a million.my email is abdelyahi@yahoo.it
Although I am happy with the theme as is since I installed ubuntulooks I was wondering where the icon, openoffice and firefox files are to go once downloaded. this information may be usefull for others as well
Hello I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and fairly new at this. This is the second theme I've tried to apply and fail at. I downloaded the tar file.. right clicked and "moved" to desktop.. clicked "Extract Here" but when I run a terminal and type in the command given it gives me this message:
cp: cannot create directory `/usr/share/themes/SlicknesS-black': Permission denied
Any ideas why?
All you should have to do now. If you are running lucid is to extract to desktop. --> right click on desk top. --> click on change desktop background --> choose themes (top left button). Then click and drag your slickness them in to the themes. It should install its self.
It will recommend new icons. Use the recommended or your own. To get new icons do the exact same thing for the theme. (extract to desk top, open themes menu, drag and drop)
Hope this helps :-)
Hi everyone,
I have downloaded the file but i couldn't install it successfully. Can anyone tell me where and how to open the terminal? and how to install the theme as well?
Sorry i'm not really familiar and this is my first time that try to install some custom theme for my windows. Thanks a lot
Wait. You want to install this in Windows XP? If that is the case, it won't work and it is impossible. The theme is for Linux. If You noticed, this site is called GNOME-LOOK. GNOME is a desktop environment software for computers running Linux and Unix-like operating systems. Windows is not one of them. If you want this theme, you'd have to be running Linux. I suggest you switch to Ubuntu or another great Linux distro like openSUSE or Fedora and give it a try. If you want to install Ubuntu easyily, take a look at WUBI. http://wubi-installer.org/ It installs as a program in Windows XP but when you boot you have an option to run either Windows XP or Ubuntu. If you want to get rid of Ubuntu, boot into Windows XP and go uninstall Ubuntu like you would normally uninstall Windows programs. Good luck.
You can simply install the theme extracting it in your $HOME/.themes directory. This has the added benefit that your themes will remain with your profile whenever you backup/move your home directory to a new installation. Dunno if this was not feasible back then, but you should update the instructions.
And you can most certainly skip the chmod 777 command. Why would you want an image file with executable permissions, owned by the administrator, and writable by anyone, is beyond me. If you ran the command, run it again with 644 instead of 777 to fix the permissions.
Sudo should not be used lightly, and always think twice before copy pasting a sudo command (well, *any* command, but specially administrator ones). If you don't have an idea what a command does, I would at least look for signs that someone that does found it harmless.
Viruses and trojans don't abound in Linux, but they will if people don't keep their guard up. Let's not make the first Galician virus a reality: "Hi, this is the first Galician virus. Please send a copy of this message to all your friends, and then format your hard drive. Thank you!" ;)
Other than that, nice theme. I did revert OpenOffice to black text over a gray background (in Options -> OOo -> Appearance) to avoid problems, but everything else has a nice gloomy flavor.
Howdy. Can anyone help me? I dl the file and extracted it, but when i went to type those commands into the terminal it keeps giving me this error message: cp: missing destination file operand after `/home/dubyah/Desktop/SlicknesS-black/usr/share/themes'
Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? thanx!

Really is still the best theme around. Used as the default window theme in Ubuntu_MCS distro http://www.demonoid.me/files/details/2566268/
i ran the commands in terminal that you provided with no result. i would really like to install this theme it looks cool.
Hey man i love the theme but i was wondering where you got that widget on the right side of the screen. it looks cool and very functional.

my terminal upon entering sudo in the command asks for the password after entering which the terminal says "command no found"
Just type sudo before the rest of the command to run it as root user..... it will ask for your password and bypass the denied permissions

Where did you get the Ying Yang icon in the corner for Applications? Suggested icons has the ever faithful foot.
It's ok i found it, change .icons/black-white_2-Gloss/scalable/places/start-here.png @128x128

Leave a space before /usr/share/themes
How did you get the transparency in the first screenshot. This theme is awesome, and making it transparent would push it over the top
