Description:
Just a slick, clean, fat-free decoration that won't distract. The goal is not a bottom-up new theme, but a careful, incremental improvement of some already good work. It's my first upload, so useful comments are appreciated.

It's a standard Emerald theme using VRunner engine. This is heavily modded from DBO's "Scaled Black Mod" which is a mod of twigsby's "Scaled: Black". I don't know which of these guys/gals made the buttons, but the Help, Sticky and Above buttons are all mine.

GTK is Glossy, Icons are a slightly modded Ubuntu Studio set (I don't like the 'running man').

Hey mate, I've been using your theme for ages now, great work. What's the name of that gorgeous font you're using in your screenshots? It looks like it has been nicely antialiased. Please post/link the font you've used and how you got it to look so good! Looking forward to hearing back,

Treefingers

Glad to hear it! Font is Perspective Sans which I got from dafont.com. It's either free or GPL, but it only really works at around 40pt size or lower (the roundness has glitches that show up when larger).

Cool, thanks for replying. I noticed you had used a font called 'Perspective Sans' when I first installed the theme, but obviously my computer didn't have it installed so just reverted to the default 'Sans'. I'll be sure to download that, and will continue using lowfat-lefty!

I've managed to get Perspective Sans, but I'm not sure how to install it. I'm using Ubuntu 8, do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Treefingers

There are a few font installation guides out there. I'd suggest "Ubuntu hardy font installation" in your search engine of choice. Success will no doubt follow. The distro forums will probably have what you need, too (the above-mentioned search is likely to put you there anyway).

Thanks for the information, I'll have a browse around the web and hopefully I'll get my desktop looking as nice as yours!

Hey, pretty sleek theme, very elegant I'm already using it!! ^_^. By the way, what are your GTK and Icon themes? they look awesome with it! :D

Treefingers

Using it is the best compliment, so thanks! GTK is Glossy, Icons are slightly customized Ubuntu Studio (see description above for details)

Treefingers

Thanks for the comments so far, everyone!

what's the purpose of having the bars so small in the center of the screen like fluxbox? its a waste of space, no?

Treefingers

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I'll make a few guesses and answer them. 1) I was under the impression that smaller would actually save space (as opposed to the giant docks some people have). 2) They're centered because I like it that way. having them as is, but on the left or right wouldn't save me any space. 3) I have two because they aren't always small. My bottom one can easily fill the width of the screen if I have a few more more windows open. The top one can expand quite a bit, too if I put the user swap back in and my notifier fills up a bit. Putting all of this in one panel just cramps everything beyond usefulness. Also, I hate the panel drawers. I hope one of these answers the question.

I'm not a big fan of the buttons, but somehow this theme feels very peaceful and clean. GJ.

Treefingers

I agree. If anything needs a bit of tweaking, it's the buttons. I'd like to soften them up a bit to suit the theme better. I'll probably update when the semester's over.

This is a great theme, it's good-looking yet practical and that's something many Linux themes can't seem to manage. You should be very proud of your theme. My only suggestion is reworking the window buttons. Firstly, I'd like to see them more prominent, especially the 'close' button. Secondly, I'd like a 'minimize' button to replace the 'keep on top' and 'stick' buttons, because I use minimize far more than 'keep on top' and 'stick'. Hope these comments help, thanks for a beautiful Linux theme!
