Description:
Quarticurve is an unofficial port of Red Hat's Bluecurve widget theme (taken out of redhat-artwork 5.0.12) to Qt 4. (I started from the Qt 3 theme.) This port is NOT endorsed or supported by Red Hat.
Last changelog:

Beta 8:
* The size of icons in menus is now fixed to 16x16 (matches Qt/KDE 3 and GTK+ default).
* Fixed crashes with QtWebKit (rh#466421) (ported the theme to use QStyleOption throughout instead of accessing widgets).
* Fixed blurriness when painting widgets on a painter which has anti-aliasing of graphics enabled (as in QtWebKit).
* Fixed the project file to detect the correct KDE 4 application data (apps) directory also on distributions using e.g. /usr/share/kde4/apps (such as Fedora).

Beta 7:
* Added a color scheme for the KDE 4 color scheme selector.
* Updated the color section in readme.txt.

Beta 6:
* Use system icons (rather than builtin Qt ones) in Qt 4 dialogs also in KDE 4 apps.

Beta 5:
* The selection color is now always forced to the active color: This is necessary to match the Qt/KDE 3 and GTK+ themes for KDE >=3.93.0, which normally uses the inactive window color as the inactive selection color whereas KDE 3 used the active selection color.
* Dock widgets now look much closer to the Qt 3 theme.
* Frames around status bar sections are now drawn (as in the Qt 3 theme).

Beta 4:
* Updated readme.txt.
* Fixed QPushButton::iconSize property being ignored.

Beta 3:
* Added support for "make install".
* Added a link to Quarticurve-KWin to the readme file.

Beta 2:
* First truely public release. (Alpha 1 and Beta 1 were previously published/announced on the fedora-devel-list.) See the changelog in the source tarball for the full list of changes from Bluecurve.

This might have been a nice theme to have if it wasn't broken and abandoned.

KevinKofler

Well, define "broken". This was only ever a Qt 4 theme, it is not expected to work with Qt 5 or 6. Yes, unfortunately, the theme is abandoned, which is also why it was never ported to newer Qt versions. The thing is, the unified Bluecurve look was great while it lasted, but it is dead. There is also no port of Bluecurve to the current GTK 3 and 4, and I was not about to try porting the GTK theme, or rather rewriting it, because theming now works completely differently in GTK 3 or 4 than it did in GTK 2. (And these days, GNOME developers actively discourage theming altogether.) So I lost interest in the Qt theme as well and never bothered doing the non-trivial porting to Qt 5. Sorry.

Really great. I love Bluecurve. How did you get your taskbar to be Bluecurve as well?

KevinKofler

For the record, the taskbar shown in the screenshot is not the Plasma 4 taskbar, but the KDE 3 taskbar. The screenshot was taken in 2007, running some Qt 4 / KDE 4 applications on a KDE 3 desktop. KDE 4.0 was released only in 2008, and the first distributions shipping it (such as Fedora 9) came out in 2008 as well.

When I activate this theme, all pushbuttons with images become small and does not respect the image size set through the code. Rest all is fine! Good Work! Regards N. Sharjith

Thanks for the bug report, I'll look into this.

KevinKofler

I think I found what's going wrong in the code, I'll fix this ASAP.

KevinKofler

Should be fixed now.

sharjith

Yes Fixed Indeed! Thanks a lot for the prompt response and a great job!

The color scheme settings work differently in KDE 3.91.0. Also, the readme.txt pointed to the wrong configuration file even for 3.90.1. Here's the relevant instructions for the current KDE alpha: * For KDE 4 apps: Best enjoyed with the following palette settings in $KDE4HOME/share/config/kdeglobals (where $KDE4HOME defaults to ~/.kde4 in the RPMs by Rex Dieter and me at kde-redhat unstable): [Colors:Window] BackgroundNormal=230,230,230 ForegroundInactive=127,127,127 ForegroundActive=255,255,255 ForegroundNormal=0,0,0 [Colors:Button] BackgroundNormal=230,230,230 ForegroundInactive=127,127,127 ForegroundActive=255,255,255 ForegroundNormal=0,0,0 [Colors:Selection] BackgroundNormal=76,89,166 ForegroundNormal=255,255,255 [Colors:View] BackgroundAlternate=240,240,240 BackgroundNormal=255,255,255 ForegroundLink=0,0,192 ForegroundVisited=128,0,128 ForegroundNormal=0,0,0 [KDE] contrast=1

I like Bluecurve but I like KDE too. Good work!

There is QtCurve, which is also already ported to KDE 4

KevinKofler

QtCurve doesn't have much to do with Bluecurve other than the name these days. Yes, it's based on Bluecurve code, but it doesn't look anything like it! And the code has also diverged a lot. This is a port of the original Bluecurve theme as found in the latest redhat-artwork packages in Fedora (5.0.12 or 7.0.0, there are no differences in the Qt and KWin themes between those versions), designed to look as much as possible as the original.
