Letters Metacity
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work):
Description:
This metacity theme displays words / abbreviations instead of buttons. Contrarily to what I've done before, the titlebar is (in my opinion) very thick, but it contributes for the "weird look" status that this theme aims to achieve .
The pack includes 3 metacitys:
- Letters Metacity, which was originally designed for the layout where the buttons are on the right, and no menu button is displayed on the left (thought the menu button is included if necessary);
- LettersOnTheLeft Metacity, which is specially well suited for the layout where the buttons are placed on the left side of the window (e.g., Ubuntu users);
- LettersOnTheMiddle Metacity, which aims to centralize the title, but looks better when the buttons are placed on the left side of the window (e.g., Ubuntu users with default configuration).
The screenshots depicting the metacity were taken using two GTK themes: Zukitwo (http://lassekongo83.deviantart.com/art/Zukitwo-203936861) and Adwaita. The wallpaper is from mx-steel (http://mx-steel.deviantart.com/art/Flow-2-131356675).
Feel free to change or improve the theme at your will. Constructive feedback is also welcomed.
To install:
1st. Download and unzip the contents of the .zip file to the /usr/share/themes/ folder (you will need super user priviledges for this);
2nd. use the Gnome Tweak Tool (Gnome 3.2) to select the Theme -> Window Theme (choose Letters, LettersOnTheLeft or LettersOnTheMiddle); or use the Appearance Settings of Gnome2 to choose the window borders.
Notice that gnome-shell will need to be restarted for the new window borders to appear. For that, press Alt+F2, write r and hit enter.

sudo cp -r Letters/ /usr/share/themes/
sudo cp -r LettersOnTheLeft/ /usr/share/themes/
sudo cp -r LettersOnTheMiddle/ /usr/share/themes/
