Usplash
Usplash is a software project in the Ubuntu community. Historically, scrolling text "verbose mode" has typically appeared on Linux computers during boot. Usplash replaces the scrolling-text screens with a graphical splash screen. Wikipedia

i thought that the glow was too subtle (i didn't notice it when i first tested it) so i made another version, where the colour of the eyes cycles. http://kimag.es/share/35035362.png do i need all the versions of size? i find the monitor i'm using now uses the small throbber, so that's the one i did. should i upload it? or add more sizes (i don't want to have to colourize for a half hour again ^^)
Absolutely upload. Yes you need to make all the throbber sizes but you should be able to just resize the throbber. With the latest version of xsplash there are pixmap buffer restrictions so none of the throbbers are all that big to begin with so resizing up isn't going to be a big deal.
ok, i just scaled the small one to all the other sizes that were there and repacked it.
