human swarm (XSplash)
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work):
Description:
This replaces the "cylon eye" animation in the ubuntu startup with a recolored version of the xubuntu "firefly swarm" animation. (you need ubuntu 9.10, or a distro using xsplash to use this theme)
Please note, this is not my original work, I just recolored the xubuntu animation.

Installation:
First extract the files in the .tar.gz file to your desktop, open the extracted folder, then hit alt=F2, enter gksu nautilus /usr/share/images/xsplash then hit run, enter your password when prompted, then drag the extracted files into the window that popped up (if you don't want to loose the default boot files make a subfolder and move them into it first), close the window and you are done!
If you prefer to use a GUI theme installer rather than getting your hands dirty in the file browser, check out Epidermis http://epidermis.tuxfamily.org/

As some of you have no doubt already discovered, when ubuntu updates xsplash, the original ubuntu theme will be restored. I recommend that you make a sub-folder in the xsplash folder (for example: /usr/share/images/xsplash/hswarm/ ) and keep a backup copy of the theme there so it will be quicker to fix after ubuntu has updated. I've just installed this and I bloody love it, and you very much.
How dare you no longer mention my blog! =P Kidding! The white version is utterly, utterly gorgeous.
I, was just trying to keep the instructions as simple as possible, I'll add it back in there though - you deserve credit and I love your blog! Glad you are enjoying the splash screen.
Hello, nice work man, I just want to ask you, do you allow modifications?
It's all default ubuntu/kubuntu art, so I couldn't stop you If I wanted to!

Yeah, it looks like the latest version of epidermis has a bug - hopefully they get that fixed soon! Anyway, if you put the files in /usr/share/images/xsplash all you have to do now is restart your computer and enjoy the show!
thanks that worked and it was so cool
Hi, I'm the developer of Epidermis. This bug has been fixed in Epidermis 0.4.1.
Thanks for all the accolades, stay tuned for some more content in a couple weeks - I have a few cool ideas for new xsplash themes!
great!
Fucking awesome!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I thought I was going to eventually have a seizure if I had to watch that cylon animation much longer. This is much more elegant, IMO.
