This is a modified version of Gartoon, a cartoon-like icon theme. The original creator of these is Zeus. Some icons have been modified, many added and many file names changed. I have uploaded this as I know lots of people still love these icons but are having problems getting all icons to show correctly in the latest gnome releases.

Just a minor update. A few modifications made.
23 Jan 2008
Renamed the Ubuntu version to "Ubuntoon". Please delete the Ubuntu version you have on your system before installing this version.
17 Jan 2008
Added new descriptive volume icons as requested.
14 Jan 2008
Please delete your current GNUtoon icons before installing this update.
Some minor fixes and resurrected the Ubuntu version as I've fixed the silly bug it had before.
Added a new Ubuntu shutdown icon.

Some minor updates and fixes. Lock screen icon works in Ubuntu now (sorry).
You will have to delete the GNUtoon theme installed already before you install this update.
Not released an alternative Ubuntu version as it gives the logout option (in the exit dialog) a power icon for some reason. This will work fine with Ubuntu though, just shows logout in the panel instead of the power icon. That used to be default in GNOME anyway.

Added some more icons, including Ubuntu logout dialog icons. If you don't want your default icons replaced then go to the actions folder and delete gnome-logout, gnome-lock-screen and all gnome-session icons.
Made some more updates for Xfce users. Should be almost on par with GNOME now. Let me know if you think something else needs an icon.
Issues: Evolution causing me grief and Epiphany to a lesser degree. I think some GNOME apps still prefer png icons sometimes.

Another big update. Lots of icon specs updated and a few new icons added. Multimedia icons/buttons should work perfectly now. Hardware icons should show fine now too. Lots of filename specs still need updating but the main ones are done now I think.
I've been messing around with shutdown icons as I haven't been satisfied with the current one. Included a new one with this version that I made an hour before posting. Might keep it, might not. I've included three shutdown icons just incase you don't like this one. You will have to go in the actions folder and rename an alternative icon to use it, or delete them and use your system default icon.

download links broken!
Hi, my question might sound stupid here but I just wonder what is the different in between GNUtoon and Ubuntoon download? My system is on Ubuntu 8.04
Not much, just the logout icon naming spec. Try this icon theme instead though: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Gartoon+Redux?content=74841 Nathan
hello! I've "found" a great ubuntu logo which perfectly match with *toon themes. See here : http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/profile.php?id=10822 I personnaly use it (modified, without the face inside) and I think you may ask him if you can use it in your icon theme... Regards, Sallé
Hello. I am now maintaining Ubuntoon on Launchpad for use in Edubuntu. https://launchpad.net/ubuntoon I have merged the changes from GartoonRedux. I hope you two can work together on a main set.
What can i say, this icon theme rocks.Keep up the good work.
Great and wonderful icons ! Never seen it before. Thank you !
Thanks for your comments. I've noticed a lot of Ubuntu users download this icon theme. If any of you struggle with streaming internet content, some DVD's not working, or just general multimedia issues, you should check out my how-to. It's exactly how I set my system up. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=661833 Nathan
hello friends, I wonder if someone is interested by updating the "audio-volume" icons, they don't represent well the volume. As I'm not good at this and I don't know how to modify *.svg, I made *.png and have fun with gimp to try to show you what - I think - would be nice. Here is the result : http://www.zimagez.com/galerie/audio-11064-0.php please tell me what you think about this :) .... and sorry for my awful english by the way :) http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/2008-01-10-0241121280x1024scrot.php
I did consider implementing that but decided it wasn't important as the progress bar tells you how high the volume is. I might make some modified volume icons though. Thanks for your comment. Nathan
thanks for considering my proposition, and for this great icon theme, I'll be watching for updates
nice work, thank you :)
For some reason whenever I update this theme, the rating goes down slightly. If you don't like cartoony icon themes then use your head and don't click on it when you see the updates page :) I'm sure there's something more grown up you can do rather than rate things down for fun. Nathan
I'm really glad to see an icon set that's not a mac rip-off. You've done a great job, please keep with it =) Already rated!
Thanks for your comment. I intend to keep it going. I'd appreciate it if Ubuntu users would tell me if their exit icons are being replaced properly. Thanks, Nathan
Mine are :)
That's good. Can you send me a screenshot of the exit dialog? Thanks.
I'd love to but I don't know how. PrintScreen doesn't work on the logoff screen =/
That icon theme is simply awesome. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your comment. Just trying to keep this theme alive. Remember to rate it if you like it. It's gone down from 85% to 84% today. Ah well...
I don't run Ubuntu and I'm interested to know how this theme affects the exit dialog. I think I might upload a version that includes the default logout, suspend, halt etc icons for Ubuntu. Let me know if that would be helpful. Must be interfering with it.
exit dialog runs fine and uses default (human) icons; it uses 'logout' icon in the gnome panel (as opposed to the shutdown icon) also, on a semi-related note, in ubuntu, Open office (quickstarter, files) uses the default (human) icons. Menu uses the correct GNUtoon icons though.
Thanks for your feedback. What are the quickstart files? Openoffice should be using GNUtoon icons. Draw is ooo-draw.svg or sometimes ooo_draw.svg so I included both. Or did you mean something else? Do the apps, places and system icons load correctly? Do in Debian.
The next release will contain a quickstart icon for OpenOffice.
