Description:
This is a massively improved variant of the well-known Gartoon theme, used by e.g. Edubuntu. Some work may also be based on the Gnutoon/Ubuntoon variant by reassuringlyoffensive. The theme is released under GPL v2 or later.

In the context of GPL, "source code" is interpreted as the SVG versions of the icons; this means that if you distribute Gartoon Redux icons or any derivative versions of them, you have to provide the SVG versions.

This package is also available in Ubuntu, though it may be slightly out of date. To install it, simply run:

sudo apt-get install gnome-icon-theme-gartoon-redux

At the moment, only the source version is available. To install, unpack in a suitable directory and run the following commands in the terminal:

./configure
make
sudo make install

To speed this up, you can use "make -jN" as the second command, where N is the number of hardware threads in your processor (e.g. "make -j4"), so that more than one SVG is rendered at the same time.

10 Finally, the icon theme that I shall rest upon. This should become the default theme of Debian, and any other distribution aimed at public service or education. Gartoon emphasizes clarity, honesty, and accessibility, as opposed to corporate stylistic trends and cliches such as flat designs, symbolic designs, touch-centric designs, or monochromatic designs. I've first found about Gartoon while exploring the icons used by Wikipedia from Wikimedia Commons.

Thanks so much for all your hard work on this icon theme. I would like to point out I had one issue installing it on PCLinuxOS. By default librsvg was not installed and I was getting errors on the make step. After installing librsvg everything compiled and installed just fine. Thanks again!

Thanks

I've loved these icons for ages and it would be really awesome to be able to use them on my phone. A few new icons would be needed, but I don't think it's a prohibitively large number... I would love you forever! :)

Good to see that this project is not dead. So I updated the package for Archlinux : https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gartoon-redux-bzr Feel free to add the link in your page if you want. Thanks!!!

...back from the dead. Last time I used this Ubuntu was still cool! (ducks)

Neat to use this icon set in Cinnamon. The install script is a bit dated (puts them in /usr/local/share/icons instead of /usr/share/icons). Can a package be made available as a pre-rendered directory of icons, or as just SVGs? (...assuming most modern desktop environments can handle SVG icons...) ...in other words the same sort of package that most other icon packs are?

How can I install it in Fedora 17??? Help!!

Hi, I really like your icon theme but I think it would be really nice if you could design icons for the following places : - Music folder (folder-music.svg) - Documents folder (folder-documents.svg) - Pictures folder (folder-music.svg) - Videos folder (folder-video.svg) These icons should be placed in the folder /usr/share/icons/GartoonRedux/scalable/places/ Thanks a lot !

Just love the icons....and was wondering if there might be a GTK theme to match it. If not, would make a great project! Thanks and keep up the great work!

If any other have problems with the icons for gnome-power-manager I have made a script which makes the necessary symlinks. You can get them here: -If you have the icons in ~/.icons/ http://emilharder.dk/scripts/gartoon-home -If you have the icons in /usr/share/icons/ http://emilharder.dk/scripts/gartoon-usr

By the way. I have made icons for empathy, gpodder, skype, muine, dropbox, agave and rubyripper. Becaurse it hurted my eyes with not have those icons in this theme. They are heavily inspired by the artwork of yours icons. I have copied some of it and so on... If you want them I can send them to you or something :) They are not all the best artwork, I'm not a big graphic guy, but they might a help for you :)

Oh.. and a Screenlets icon too.

The icon in gnome-power-manager is missing It looks like it is a link to "battery-*.svg" named "gpm-battery-*.svg" that is missing. It worked for me with making those. I have experiented it in both the tar and the deb. Beyond that, it is a wonderful theme :)

steigerjb

you should add a Empathy gartoon icon now that Empathy is the default IM client in Karmic Koala

rozbarwinek

Those are my favorite icons :) Could you create a KDE4 version?

sertse

Xfce now has a power manager, like Gnome does. It would be nice the theme could support it. It's probably a matter of just linking the equivalent names to the existing icon images? The relevant icon names xfpm-ups-missing xfpm-ups-charged xfpm-ups-100 xfpm-ups-100-charging xfpm-ups-080 xfpm-ups-080-charging xfpm-ups-060 xfpm-ups-060-charging xfpm-ups-040 xfpm-ups-040-charging xfpm-ups-020 xfpm-ups-020-charging xfpm-ups-000 xfpm-ups-000-charging xfpm-primary-missing xfpm-primary-charged xfpm-primary-100 xfpm-primary-100-charging xfpm-primary-080 xfpm-primary-080-charging xfpm-primary-060 xfpm-primary-060-charging xfpm-primary-040 xfpm-primary-040-charging xfpm-primary-020 xfpm-primary-020-charging xfpm-primary-000 xfpm-primary-000-charging xfpm-phone-100 xfpm-phone-060 xfpm-phone-030 xfpm-phone-000 xfpm-mouse-100 xfpm-mouse-060 xfpm-mouse-030 xfpm-mouse-000 xfpm-keyboard-100 xfpm-keyboard-060 xfpm-keyboard-030 xfpm-keyboard-000 xfpm-brightness-lcd xfpm-brightness-lcd-invalid xfpm-ac-adapter

Added those aliases to Bazaar, thanks.

aly89

For Lyx document files: in mimetypes: ln -s text-x-lyx.png application-x-lyx.png Cheers!

aly89

For C# icons: (apparently, the latest version of Ubuntu now recognizes C# files as text-x-csharp, rather than text-x-csharpsrc) in mimetypes: ln -s text-x-csharpsrc.svg text-x-csharp.svg Cheers!

Tweenk

Committed both aliases to bzr, thanks.

Fisrt of all congratulations for such a real nice job. I installed today the Gartonn Redux Icon Theme in my netbook and i would like to report an incidence. I dont know if its a problem of my netbook. Instead of the ubuntu Icon appear the gnome icon. This happens in the main menu application and so it happens in System-About ubuntu. I install the same Icon theme in my Pc las t week, (before the last update), and everything works allright. I would apreciate your attention about this point. Thak you so much and congratulations again. Lipe 69

The same things happens in my laptop. I hadn't realized this was an issue until I read this comment. Besides, could you add an icon for Songbird? Thanks for the theme, it's really great!

ivansoriano

I uninstalled the theme for Ubuntu that I had downloaded and installed the theme through the PPA and that solved the Ubuntu icon problem.
