Fluxbox
Fluxbox is a stacking window manager for the X Window System, which started as a fork of Blackbox 0.61.1 in 2001, with the same aim to be lightweight. Its user interface has only a taskbar, a pop-up menu accessible by right-clicking on the desktop, and minimal support for graphical icons. Wikipedia

I have found some great smooth but not big font.. I use Lucida Grande and bauhaus in my fluxbox config + ClearlyU Alternate Glyphs in my gtk theme config.
Ya I didn't really want to use MS fonts either and I was looking for some nice free fonts that weren't to big or too small and just gave up after a short while. I lack patience what can I say =)
Very nice. I love the simplistic color scheme used. Only problem with themes like this is that it's a bit hard to tell where one window ends and another begins. But still, very spiffy lookin'. Unlike other themes the close/max/minimize buttons aren't hidden by default (which I don't really like). Knowing me I'd probably throw a few colors into the task-bar text ;). PS., I probably wouldn't use MS fonts, either :P.
