My Breezy Badger Submission to the contest on the official Ubuntu mailing lists, to which a winner was never announced... :


I think my badger is breezy, him being young and fresh.
He also seems brisk and full of life through his bounding/prancing along…
He has a little mischievous but happy look in his eye, suggesting that there is more to him than meets the eye…

He is holding in his paws an ancient african medicine mask (aka ubuntu). By looking out from behind it, he is showing a departure from old linux, or a new beginning for the ubuntu project, while he is still holding his “roots” firmly in his paws! He is bringing you ubuntu (as he is a developer mascot). And he is bringing it on fast.
He is looking into the sky, looking into the future.
His jumping/prancing along shows his breezy nature.
