Description: This is an animated wallpaper that changes as the day goes by.
The foreground is a photo I took of the hill overlooking Buckeye hot springs, just outside of Bridgeport, CA. The various skies are from pictures I took in the desert and the stars are from the Hubble Space Telescope (sorry, I can't recall the specific image). http://hubblesite.org/gallery/album/entire/
Installation: Step 1.) Extract the folder "skyscene" to your desktop, then hit alt+f2 and type gksu nautilus /usr/share/backgrounds hit run, enter your password when prompted, drag "skyscene" from the desktop into the window that popped up, then close it.
Step 2.) Now right click on the desktop > change desktop background > Add > now browse to /usr/share/backgrounds/skyscene/, in the bottom right change from "Images" to "All Files" then select "sky.xml" and click "Add"
Step 3.) (optional) If you want the wallpaper available to all users (by default) ignore step 2, and instead hit alt+f2, type in gksu gedit /usr/share/gnome-background-properties/ubuntu-wallpapers.xml then hit run, in the open file, before the last line add an appropriate entry (it gets messed up when I put the code in here, but just copy the other entries, but for the filename line put in /usr/share/backgrounds/skyscene/sky.xml) and save the file.
(in ubuntu 9.10 there is a slideshow background in the default selection, but it seems to have been added using a different method - if anyone knows what they did, let me know)
If there is any interest I can repackage this in other resolutions - the original is 3072X1920Last changelog:
