I would like to take some ideas of this background to make a bootsplash and kdmtheme :) (and thsirth would be great too).
At least, change the name, as Mandrake is now known as Mandriva :D

my opinion, gentoo is awesome. i highly recommend it. i sort of like fedora core though.

The star looks to be quite sad. That might be because of the shape and position of the eyes. I also do not like the "www.mandrake.org". If you could make the star look more happy and remove the link, then I think it would be a wonderful wallpaper.
Love the smoothness and colour. Very nice use of reflections and shading.
I find the little ?puffs of could? distracting and add to much of an element of "trying to add more then you should have" to the piece. I think it would look better without them.
The world underneath the star could also use more polish or its opacity diminished to not take away from the star.
I really like the mood of this one and the design of the star as well as the text plays nicely, though cliche as it is, it works really well here.
