I know this is one of those simple things that people will always say is possible in other ways (like above), but it does the job and does it well. My screensaver has refused to autostart for a while now - one of those small annoyances. So now I have them back! Thanks, good work.
That's not new. I use the "Bildschirmsperre und Abmeldung aus KDE"-Kicker-Applet (english should be "Screensaver and Logoff from KDE" or something else). You have two buttons in your Kicker and can switch on the screensaver whenever you need it ;-)
This kicker applet (lock/logout applet) locks the screen. This shortcut I made only activates the screensaver and don't locks the screen. Well, you can change this applet to only activate the screensaver, but you have to change the code. It is only a single line, but for the final user...
Maybe anybody can add a option to lock/logout applet in the future to only activates the screensaver, but for now I made this workaround.
This is a shortcut to activate the screensaver. This is a desktop entry to K-menu. Don't wait the screensaver to activate or be annoyed when the screensaver actives when you are watching a movie. Disables the automatic activation of screensaver and activate the screensaver when necessary. Simply copy this file to ~/.kde/share/applnk/, for the user only, or $KDEDIR/share/applnk/, for system-wide use. If you prefer, add a button to kicker or put this in Desktop.
