... because it doesn't make sense. People (me for sure) don't expect scrollviews in a menu. A menu is a list of actions that you can execute by clicking on them. This isn't really a menu but more a menuified floating panel. I think it is a bad idea to add widgets (textboxes, scrollviews, ...) to menus other then labels like today. How would you navigate through this with the keyboard? People know when you click on a menu, it goes away. This would not always be possible with other widgets then labels (click to give focus to the textbox, click to drag the scrollbar, ...) In short, I think this would be confusing and would decrease usability.

I agree with the previous poster. The placement of these widgets is not intuitive, the concept is nice but should be implemented in a dialog... Also consider what happens to it when viewed on screens with small resolution (laptops), add large fonts (there are people, particularly with visibility problems that do use large fonts) and your new addition to the menu goes off screen (it already happens to me with the recently run applications list). And no, this cannot be yet "another" option for the menu config (I'm doing a pre-emptive strike here), the KDE configuration is already a nightmare of options.

This is great! Why can't people put functionality before prejudices. If things work, it doesn't matter if they're similar to other systems (Windows) - they're probably there because they're proven to work well. This is not to say that this is the same as Windows XP, but if it were, that wouldn't be a bad thing considering the state of KDE's menu at the moment!

I really want KMENU to be like this! It is useful and attractive. You KDE (windows hating) users have problem of hating everything which looks good and distantly familiar to windows you people get so bitter! It's windows like? No way! it is more attractive and has much more functionality of finding application. Grow up guys, If you really hate windows you have to stop using KDE! why? see this list: 1. Window decoration 2. window button placement (minimize, maximize, close) 3. panel 4. shortcuts keys (ctrl+c, ctrl+v, ctrl+n) 5. menu (menu looks exactly like windows) 6. show desktop button 7. quick launch 8. system tray 9. toolbars 10. folder icons 11. kolourpaint (exactly like mspaint) 12. ....and the list you can increase by yourself. Keep hating windows and stop using KDE, because KDE is more like Windows!!! And you know that!

I really agree with maarizwan. Also, if you think windows is bad, fine, but why are you charging the graphics they use. Looking like Windows doesn't make KDE weaker. I guess there are just some people who have to nag whenever they see something that resembles windows, that being technically(usability, etc.) better or not. Sad.

Yeah. KDE is just like windows, but better!! ;)

I don't have a problem with someone making something that's similar to windows. I actually get in moods when I want to see how close I can get KDE to look like other OS's and then I have fun confusing my friends who by now have no clue what I'm running. The closer the better and plus m*soft had to put some R & D into there look, mind you it's just a look it has nothing to do with shotty business practices or poor coding. It's just another way you can change KDE. I encourage it. Thank you for your time!

polrus

i have allergy for the atempts to make kde look like m$ w.

aleander

Naw, that's not too similiar to XP - modulo icon theme :) Anyway, I'd rather see such searches as an applet in http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=25441 That would be really nice :)
