This version is a prototype (i.e. the result of two evenings' work). If you think it's a good idea let me know and I can work on implementing some of the features properly. I also welcome feature suggestions and any other feedback.
To install:
tar jxvf appinfo.tar.bz
./configure
make
make install
To use:
Just type 'appinfo:/' followed by the application name you're interested in the konqueror address bar. Typing 'appinfo:/' will list all the applications found in your $PATH.

Works like a charm. This is a GREAT idea. Hope this'll make it into Kubuntu 8.04... And thanks for the .deb package as well.
My system is OpenSuse 10.3 x64. I've seen that I can run kio-appinfo in konqueror with appinfo:/ or app:/ I dont know if you knew that Nice work it's great. mfg
using checkinstall. http://www.esnips.com/web/RF-Linux
It is a definitely good idea. Keep on this good work.
available as a part of non7top overlay here http://code.google.com/p/non7top/wiki/inst_overlay
this is very good idea.. akine to OSX keeping "all" files in /Library/ or ~/Library/. at least we can see "all" the relevant files. though dpkg -L (on deb related machines) shows all the installed files, it would be nice to see all the userspace files too..
please add version to tarball name, i.e. appinfo-0.1.tar.bz2 It would be convenient for feature releases
I'have just done a Kubuntu 7.10 DEB for this fantastic KIO. The standard name for kio slaves is: kio-name So i call the folder of sources: kio-appinfo-0.1 And the package is: kio-appinfo_0.1_i386 You can download it from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?2xrmf2v5mtv I think this is the rigth name for the package! ;-)
