1.0_rc2:
-Rearranging the items of the left column by drag and drop works again

I consider this pretty much feature complete at least for now, so it's the time to approach the fatidical 1.0

0.8.2
another little bugfix release:
-Spanish translation by Jesus S Fernandez Prieto
-button background goes highlighted even if kicker doesn't have neither a background pixmap or transparent background
-menu icon (including on mouseover effect) changes immediately when the user sets a new icon
-highlighted button background also when kicker has no transparency or backgound image
-searching should be a little bit faster (still far from optimal)

0.8.1:
-German translation by Jannick Kuhr
-Drag and drop enabled only in "Favourite applications" mode (otherwise it destroys the favourite list!)

0.8:
-Favourite applications list can be rearranged via drag and drop
-new installed programs notification should be more reliable (some inspiration from Kickoff )

-easier to start a program with a single mouse click when the tree is collapsed
-groups with only one item can be configured to be shown
-items can be ordered alphabetically (with applications after the groups)
-better managing of the button size (especially within a vertical panel) and when the menu text is disabled the button is exactly square

Hello! I think I found a small bug: when you place the kicker panel on the right side of the screen, you can't place Tasty on the button of the panel, because it will open the menu downwards, outside the screen.

pierat

Sorry: I just confused left/right. (Must be getting older...) I meant the left screen side. But the effekt stays the same: Tasty opens the menu downwards, outside the screen, when you place it at the bottom of the kicker panel.

Tasty is great, but there are two things I haven't found out yet: 1. Can I set the background to something else then plain white? 2. There are some extra key on my keyboard. How can assign the key XF86menuKB (keycode 168) to open Tasty?

On my sytem (debian, using kde 3.5.9), there is another strange effect, which gomes and goes with flickering: when I type in a search, the search results appear after the 3rd letter (I believe this is what is intended), but after about half a second they disappear again and I am left with an empty list of search results. The behavior seems to be the same with 1.0.6 from debian and 1.0.7 compiled by myself. (BTW the 1.0.7 version claims it is a 1.0.6 - small glitch). Now at least with my self-compiled version the problem seems to disappear when I check "override alt+F1.." in the "Configure" dialog. I even reset the Shortcut via "Configure Global Shortcuts" to Ctrl+Space while leaving the Alt+F1 option checked. Still no flicker, no disappearing search results and Ctrl+Space brings up tastymenu. I havent tried this with the precompiled version though (I deinstalled it). I tried this a couple of times back and forth and the behavior was consistent, i.e. unchecked->trouble, checked->no trouble. Still I am not sure if this is really a workaround. The flickering had been gone before and reappeared out of nowhere, so maybe tomorrow it'll be back. But the fact that search results disappear when flickering is on, was very consistent in the past. Maybe this rings some bells? P.S. I also took the liberty to remap the return key so it clears the search text, rather than launching a program in case there is only one search result. This way (and with Ctrl+Space launching tastymenu) I can operate tastymenu more easily from the keyboard. menuhandler.cpp: 346 return false; 347 348 // DTZ 349 menu->searchLine->clear(); 350 return true; 351 352 QListViewItem *listItem = NULL;

Some more observations: After typing in a search and the results being displayed, I close tastymenu. When I start it again, I see it in the state I left it, i.e. the search string is still visible and so are the search results. Good. However when I actually launch anything, the next time I pop up tastymenu, it stills shows the search string, but no search results, which is inconsistent. Those search results seem to be quite fragile. Another thing I noticed, is that just hovering the mouse over a category in the middle panel brings up this category in the right panel. No big deal, but confusing. I would have expected that this takes a click. Likewise in the left panel (search results). Hovering the mouse over a section heading collapses or uncollapses the items below. My feeling is that tastymenu processses events it should really ignore.

Hello, Tasty menu is certainly the best kde menu in my opinion, far from the default one and better than kickoff. I really love it. Nonetheless, I have noticed a really irritating feature: it keeps on blinking very often. Could this be fixed ? My system : opensuse 11.0 + kde 3.5.10 + tastymenu 1.07. Thanks for all.

janet

Do you have a fully transparent kicker? Try coloring the kicker a little - does tastymenu still blink? Mine doesn't.

fresneda

Great applet. Unfortunately, in debian sid it causes kicker to memory leak. Pity.

janet

I have a weird problem: it's not possible to start ksysv in root mode via tastymenu. It works fine with standard kmenu and fine via console (kdesu ksysv). But as soon as I try to start the very same command via tastymenu the whole desktop is dead (except for mouse) until I kill the kdesu process via a virtual console. All other apps I have tested do work fine with tastymenu and kdesu. Anybody else has this weird behaviour? And how can I get it to work?

janet

Does anybody know what must be done to the source code to disable the submenus opening/closing on mouseover?

przemkus

Maybe I missed something, but is there some guide which -dev packages to install in order to build .deb package on Debian/Kubuntu? I found out that compilation and building package out of the sources requires following packages in Kubuntu Hardy: g++ debhelper build-essential fakeroot xorg-dev libqt3-mt-dev kdebase-dev :)

przemkus

Hello, I noticed that the option "add icon to desktop" doesn't work with recent KDE (Kubuntu Hardy) and Polish language. I think the problem source is that "Desktop" directory name is now localized, and eg. in Polish it's called "Pulpit". Greetings:)

darkphoenixff4

Tastymenu is great! Is there going to be a KDE4 port? If not, mind if I try? I much prefer Tastymenu to Kickoff and the default KMenu...

janet

Oh please do! I'm kind of afraid of loosing usability when I finally have to switch to KDE 4 desktop. I'd really feel relieved to know at least I could use tasty menu with KDE 4.

douglh

I agree completely. I will not upgrade to any distro that uses kde4 until tasty menu is available for it.

flakeparadigm

KDE 4.1 is out but still no Tasty Menu for it! Hope it comes soon!

dough

Here's one more vote! KDE 4.1 is an improvement but I still won't use it until there's a tasty menu available!!!

Zwopper

This is THE best KDE menu by far! Please port it to KDE 4 as well!!!

TubaSoldier

Thank you so much. I love Tasty! The last time I tried using it there were some memory leak issues. Things are great now! Love the work. Looking forward to seeing it in KDE4!

kronophage

Hi, just wanted to say Tasty Menu is great ! Really like the way it lets you see all your apps with a quick glance. Far better than KDE default menu and (above all) kbfx ! I really hope you'll find time to port it to KDE4, otherwise it would be such a great loss :( Thanks and keep it up ;) ed

ACG

Yes. Please don't let Tasty fall by the wayside. Best. KDE. Menu. Ever.

qbaaa

Is it possible to use the original, rectangular OpenSUSE K Menu Button - /opt/kde3/share/apps/kicker/pics/kmenu_basic.mng ? I did Configure (from right click menu) > Button Icon and placed /(...)/kmenu_basic.mng and OK, but it narrowed to square shape.

janet

The tooltips are a little buggy: the comment is displayed twice and there is no space between last word of application name and first word of comment. And there's a tiny typo in the german translation in the settings: there's a & where there shouldn't be: S&ymbolgrößen

jotapesan

This program is really good. for me is better than kickoff. i love it. The only thing a little annoying is the combobox. For better usability maybe is a good idea to change the combobox with 4 buttons or icons (web browser style). ¿What do you think?
