I've started porting it, but so far it does only work with XRender (one can't see anything in OpenGL...)
Sorry - you'll have to wait a bit.
(I need to find a way to grow two more arms. A second head would probably help as well ;-)
> Glad to see you like bespin and working on improving it.
click on my name, select the artwork tab, look at entry #5 ... ;-)
I don't think i ever published the wallpaper.
-> http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/850/verticalw.jpg/
'click on my name...'
and why didn't you make it easier and just sent me the link? Are you lazy or what? ;)
Anyway quite frankly I'm not sure about this one. Speaking just about the 'bespin aspect' in that screenshot:
- the preset is OK, but nothing too special (like the scrollbar but IMO it could be a bit thinner)
- I think you should be punished for mixing it with oxygen icons! At least bespin tried to hide behind the blur but it failed in 30% ;)
About the shadow effect:
- got nothing to say as it ain't no shadow there (it's rather some sort of shadow of a shadow of a shadow..); and I'm not a big fan of shadows anyway.
About the wallpaper: yeah, most def I like this one as well. A link would be greatly appreciated.
> Anyway quite frankly I'm not sure about this one.
Have a _very_ close look: it's NOT a preset.
Now bring in
> Glad to see you like bespin and working on improving it.
And now realize what's "wrong" about it =)
(HInt: i don't precisely "like" bespin - the relation is somewhat different)
(The scrot is btw. nearly 5 years old - from a time when KDE4 hardly existed at all - the window Decoration is emerald)
Now I've realized something too: I'm a retard :| Well at least not an utterly retarded retard as I'm still able to realize something..
I had option 'Show only artwork with score above' set to 80% and some of your works were filtered out thus I was looking at the wrong artwork. And hence my comment must seemed a totally retarded jabberwocky to you. So scratch that crap about shadows etc (I was referring to PanelShadows which with that filter set to 80% is shown as the fifth (and last) of your artworks)..
So it's YOU who's svn repo is attacked by me at least dozen times per day (while prying to see updates)!
Clearly I understand all your hints now ;)
Sorry about all the fuzz..
I simply could have said it isnted of using an error prone game... :S
Nevermind =)
Also, you're attacking sf.net - i don't care too much and they can probably take it ;-)
1) your game was good. And even though it didn't go as planned I was still pleasantly surprised in the end, so it worked out.
2) what's the best place to post feedback for bespin? Kde-look or somewhere else?
3) why don't you submit new screens for bespin? The old ones give people rather wrong idea about the current style appearance.
4) do you know how to bespin Firefox and gtk(2) apps without using orta? [never mind libreoffice - that's a real bitch to customize and I've given up] If you don't then nobody does. I like Orta but any of its variations won't suit my current bespin preset and kde color scheme..
Sorry for the out-time.
"3) why don't you submit new screens for bespin?"
"too lazy", "i don't bump the kde-look entry anyway", ...
In addition I would have to patch a very nasty "That's not plasma and no, you cannot have it" comment on them ;-)
"4) do you know how to bespin Firefox and gtk(2) apps without using orta?"
Short version: "no"
GTK2 is not capable of esp. swapping colors (there faar too many handcrafted widgets with hardcoded colors in the wild. Some don#t even work with dark schemes - sigh)
About orta colors: have a look at
/usr/share/themes/Orta/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
if you're not afraid of an text editor, you can change color values, but here's a good hint:
ensure contrast between all backgrounds and all foregrounds.
3) It doesn't matter really. Many people wouldn't appreciate it anyway. The more glassy-bubble, blinding, inconsistently designed (or consistently mis-designed ?) orgy-of-colors-eye-f*ckin' desktop they have, the more they like it. IMO of course, maybe I'm wrong not appreciating hiper-rococo tendency in KDE mainstream design. Whatever
4) 'if you're not afraid of an text editor..'
that depends. I quite like vi(m) or notepad++ (used to run it on wine) and now I'm in love with Kate :) However gedit kinda scares me.
there's no such setting if you're looking for it - the effect derived from some demand to put a complex structure behind an argb window.
However, it's not too hard to add this (just manipulate scale and offset, while i'd recommand to have a properly scaled pixmap for xrender in place)
Do you wanna try it yourself (and maybe need assistance) or just "i want a checkbox that does some smart countermovement depending on the texture & window size" ;-)
i wish i could... :( i know little html and little css and nothing else :D
what reflexions u use... i wanna make just little orange glow becouse my icons are orange and my color shame too but the corners getting rectangular sometimes and also i make it apply only on normal windows but the reflex overlay some menu's like "quick-access" and "calendar" too...
Here's three screenshots of the effect in action. It's like its shaping oxygen in to other materials :-p
Very nice work Thomas! As usual.

Doesn't work with KDE 4.5 (using oxygen-transparent, but I guess that doesn't matter). When I try to activate it I get a notification saying
"KDE Window Manager:
The Following desktop effects could not be activated:
* BeReflected"
did you compile it on kde 4.4?
(the effects lib is not ABI stable and increases its version from time to time, so you _must_ compile and link the effect for the current KDE version)

Thanks for looking into it!
Glad to see you like bespin and working on improving it. I'm gonna have to try this effect. BTW, can I have link to the wall plz?

Hi it is great thing but it really needs some howto and may be a depency list.)
this reflexion doesn't move like the compiz one... i mean it's move :D but together with windows how can i make it freez when moving windows...

Yes that fixed it. Sorry I didn't think about it before I bothered you :-)
Man i like that theme what is it...
UI style? Bespin. (max.milk preset with altered window translucency) Panel? Custom, not plasma, not released.
If only you could do that with kwin instead of Bespin. Bespin is horrible
