Description: FSRunner is a kde runner, the idea is to give you instant access to any file or directory you need. As a lot of time is spend walking through directories, you should never need to walk through 8 directories to get to a location you already know where is.
The homepage at http://code.google.com/p/fsrunner/ has a howto with pictures.
Example usage: you can configure it to scan $HOME, with a depth of 3, and ignore files. And then scan Desktop, with a depth of 1, and include files there. If you have the file Desktop/TODO, you can then write todo in krunner and it will find that file. It also allows using * in searches.
If you've had the action system enabled at all, let me know here or in the bug tracker and I'll get it to usable state. I know it's broken, but I've been busy and I know nobody who uses it.
PLEASE report all problems on http://code.google.com/p/fsrunner/issues/list , if you dont tell me it's broken I can't fix it.
Please vote me up, OR tell me how this isn't practical to you. Because at this point I can't live without it.Last changelog:
Been far too busy for far too long. Atleast getting critical bugfixes now!
Fix bug causing crashes when conflicting with other krunner plugins.
I've said it before and I say it again. I have no idea why this runner has been so neglected by KDE users and distributions. Its power and usability are far superior to Nepomuk's. It does less, but it does it much much better. It's way faster, at least on my laptop with a decent SSD. It's simple and doesn't return hundreds of useless search results like Nepomuk does.
I recently switched from 4.5 to 4.9 and found fsrunner to cause krunner to crash very often. I can't work well withour this item, please fix it and bring it back!
This program rocks! It puts Nepomuk to shame (granted, Nepomuk tries to do a lot more... but it should at least get filename indexing right).
My only major complaint is the lack of a user-configurable ability to exclude directories. I have one directory with about one million books stored each as a text file with its name as a title, so I tend to get lots of these in results, sometimes getting in the way. I've had to game the system a little and fiddle with exact depths and priorities to get these guys out of the way.
Otherwise, great work! I agree that this should be in KDE by default. Not acceptable to have this essential feature included in Windows but not in KDE! Nepomuk isn't up to the task yet, at least not until the KRunner search does common-sense things like listing filename matches before content matches (sometimes I can't even get it to list filename matches at all).
That's a great piece of software, I've been looking for exactly this for a long time. Is there a Kubuntu package anywhere?
One more comment: it seems to me that the search matches only the beginning of the filename, it would be great if it could match arbitrary substrings.
Hi, I've been using FSRunner for some months now ad it's been great so far. After the KDE(mod)4.4 update KRunner keeps crashing on me. Since FSRunner is the only non-standard plugin for KRunner i installed, may it be the cause for these crashes? I can of course provide you with the crash infos.
Post and issue with as much information as possible here:

It'd increase your chances of getting it fixed a lot if you build it in debug mode and get me a console output of that as well. See build-debug.sh, it's in the svn tree.
Please note that I'm working a lot of hours lately, so excuse the delay on replies/lack of updates.
Unfortunatly I work so much overtime, and have been for the last 6 months it's incredibly hard for me to get to this. I don't even have a build enviroment setup right now to test it :/
There are two thinks that KRunner misses, IMHO. One is themability, the other is FSRunner. Why don't you candidate FSRunner for integration in KDE? I personally think it would be nice, and you wouldn't have to worry about it.
Well, I can't ask for it to be included and then stop maintaining it. That's not how things work.
Fsrunner also has some limitations, especially with symlinks, that I'd like to see fixed before inclusion.
You might want to feature request this kind of feature, and then link them to fsrunner for inspiration/code.

Please, could you please port it to plasma 5?
Default Nepomuk file search doesn't work well for me but this works great.
this it, what i search for... like decades :-) Thank you very much... Works great. Regards Volker
This is amazing, just what I wanted. I have no idea why Nepomuk&Strigi aren't capable of doing exactly this. Thanks!
This sometimes crashes Krunner on my 4.9 system. I guess this is known, right? Is there a fix coming? I can provide whatever bug report may be needed.
... for updating this invaluable part of KDE!
This is the most usable krunner plugin ever! I think you should try to include it in SC! Great thanks for updating it (it kept me away from 4.9)
Thank you, FSRunner is great, one of the most useful KDE applications.
Many thanks for the update! I cannot live without fsrunner too ;) +1 from me. Best regards

Yes there is a PPA from Sam Rog on Launchpad Site: Quote:sudo add-apt-repository ppa:samrog131/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install plasma-runner-fsrunner
that's all ;) thx to Sam Rog
(tested on kubuntu 10.04 KDE 4.5.1)
There are a number of issues which needs to be corrected in the bugtracker home page. Is fsruner a dead project?
I haven't had time to work on it at all for some time. But another person has joined the project and fixed multiple issues.
Thank you so much for this. I haven't done the math, but it has saved me a plenty of time.
Can you please tell me how to add search for hidden files in fsrunner.. How can I make Dolphin search using fsrunner instead of strigi

It IS FSRunner fault. Disabling it solves the problem. Recompiling it does not have any effect

Hi, will this bug be fixed? I don't get if all of us with 4.4 get it.

Fantastic thing! Great addon on KRunner, an absolute must-have for future KDE4 releases! Thanks! ;)
