but here is where it has to be

---------------------------------
I was googling to find a panoramic photo of the open space to use as compiz/beryl cube skydome and I found this:
http://www.spitzer.caltech.edu/Media/mediaimages/sig/sig05-025.shtml
a 400MB monster of 162 Megapixels (27000x6000) fakecolor photo of the milky way.
It was impressive, but I had to manipulate it because it was not a circular panorama and because it was too much bright and starry.
This is a 360° view of the Galaxy in 4096x2048 (8MB PNG image).
I kept the resolution as high as reasonably possible: if that's too much for your video card then scale it down, but remember that the dimensions must be a power of 2 in order to work with beryl (e.g. 2048x2048 or 1024x512).
The third preview is a crop of the photo at full resolution, so you can get the idea of what the effective per-pixel resolution of the image is.

Im screwin something up... because when i attempt to download this (nebula red) i am getting a download.php file... I have attempted to then open this file within gimp.. and save it as a png file.. but it still does not seem to work... just getting a blank skydome
your problem is the size of the skydome.. you need to resize it;)
Doh! that worked when i resized it to 1024x512 :)
download.php is some kind of problem with KDE-Look, Compiz-Themes and all of these servers... It's not anything critical: you just have to rename the file with his correct name. You can avoid the problem: just don't use the "save link as" menu: open the link instead and then, as in this case you are viewing an image, right click and do "save image as".
hey, that's a great picture. but it seems you uploaded the wrong file. it is a 1600x800 px file, not 4096x2048 ;)
O_O AHAHAHAAHAHAHA '^_^ I'm an idiot... I'll fix it immediately... Sorry to all...
