Description: I wanna start this project and try to gather the ppl from the various Star Trek LCARS additions to make a complete theme for KDE.
For me I would like to transform my KDE into a working LCARS console as seen in the Star Trek series, but you only find parts or old stuff for kde or enlightenment.
I think of a basic background additional karamba buttons, systemsounds, window decorations and splash screens. (I got several files to support)
If any one is interested, pls join the project.
UPDATE OK I just uploaded a basic wallpaper to start with - nothing important (not mine - only modified one)Last changelog:
13.09.05 - Initial decision to start - upload of a basic wallpaper taken from System47
I am a member of Via Astris, the Philippine Star Trek Club. I handle Business Development for a software company that developed a Kubuntu-based Linux OS that runs both Linux and Windows applications. I have a personal pet project: presenting the group with a version of our product with a Star Trek Theme on a KDE 3.5.5 Desktop.
I’d be willing to pay for a basic theme that you might be able to whip up in the next few days. Depending on the result on the basic theme, I'd be willing to talk to you about more advanced development, such as dynamic wallpaper, icons, menus, windowing, more options, etc.
If you are interested, please contact me at jbrodeth@citizenssoft.com. I would like to start this project asap, so the sooner you can contact me, the better.
With kind regards,
Sadly this project wasn't accepted as i thought. The problem is, that i have no graphics-skill at all. All I could have offered would have been testing, suggesting and organisating of all the stuff.
Due to the fact that it didn't come to life I sadly have to decline your offer.
here is the link to the desktopx version that is very functional and interactive. very imersive.

If I had any skills I would love to help. as is I can only offer to help test.
I tried switching to enlightenment just for a good LCARs theme. It didn't work, nor did the old school Acess 441 version. I am thrilled someone is going to be making a full LCARS theme, and I will use it, at the very least on planes and during presentations and all, just to impress people. I have high hopes it will be higly usable and scalable, I don't want to be locked into 640x480 or anything.
One thing to consider in terms of long term usability, LCARS tend to take up a ton of space in thick bars making it far less than practical, you may want to consider a condensed or slim version as well.
If I thought I could really add anything to the project I would offer my help. Instead, I just hope and wish you luck in completing this theme in the fairly short term.
I think this is a wonderful idea! I am a great star trek fan and would love to have an LCARS-KDE-console.
I would really like to see how it progresses...
@Maxilys: Why do they dislike it?
I think this is an excellent idea.
I wish I knew how to write themes or do image manipulation.
I can work on some superkaramba themes perhaps, but someone'd have to do the graphics for that too.
Either way, I'm all for it. Excellent idea, you got my support. :D
Thanks for your interest. I have for example buttons with and without writings in it. So I could supply them to you and the fonts, to greate several buttons to add to the dektop.
Then I am home I will upload a wallpaper for the normal layout.
hmmm - i was thinking about several little themes like one theme containing only one button for mail for example - so that the user may choose which buttons to put into his desktop.
You already made yourself some ennemies. The name, the concept, the look of LCARS is very repulsive for some people. ;-)
Any way, I'm not very fond of it either but just for the fun of it, here is the archive of the LCARS for Enlightenment:

There are all graphics needed to draw a windec. I hope you haven't already found it.
Thanks for the link - but as you thought I already found that one. Thanks anyway.
Yes, I know, that many do not like Star Trek (mainly Star WARS fans) - but I am used to that, because I play Counter-Strike under linux. And linux user like that the same as Star Trek ;)

Hi, This sounds like an interesting project. I'd be glad to help in any way possible if you ever get this started.

I've been looking to some sort of startrek theme for my Zaurus. I'm in as I also prefer KDE, I'll try to port this work to the Z also. markpmc

Ok, but making a karamba theme's gonna take a lot of work and time. And I'm gonna have to rip someone off cuz starting from scratch is hard.
