I'm giving it a go right now. About the file: you shouldn't call it .tar.gz if it's only a tar. Rename it to kdx.tar
If you want to call it tar.gz, you need to gzip it as well:
tar czf kdx.tar.gz Kdx

there is no need to care about extensions of filenames in unix... just tell ark that you are opening a unzipped tarball and all is right ;)
i like it but i've got some problem with the Ark extraction...maybe my problem but i like it :D
