Well, I didn't take any guide since I had been working with similar software on Windows.
But I would recomend the articles in TUX Magazine and the tutorials taht come with inkscape, in the help menu.
After that, you only need practice and zoom. Zoom in/out everything and try to figure out how you could you build that thing with poligons and gradients.
