Description:
This is a splash screen about KDE in EUROPE.
Maybe it is a splash that has a smaller public....but i just wanted to make it because it looks great!
Last changelog:

version 0.1.1:
I made a perl script to install the splash screen very easy: just run ./splash_install

version: 0.1.2
I removed the names of the countries. I think i looks better now.

version: 0.1.3
I fixed the netherlands
(manually, untill i have found a new map).

version: 0.1.4
I made Switzerland white on the map.

KDE also lives quite well in Estonia! :) I also have heard the same thing about Latvia.

da ideia its good but just needs little more work on da design. but even so i love it! i can see ma house from here :) its on the most western point of europe! yep u r rigth far far away from civilized world, but who cares, i hve beer and iv sun iv seaaaa. Cabo da ROCA rocksss :D

this is all getting a bit to political for me. this could be the beginning of a new world war if we're not careful. anyway..like your idea but i think that the most crucial part is missing.....namely 'ICELAND'

nomade_

according to this map I live nowhere :) The island "crete" (in greece) is missing and it is no small island (great if you want to spent some vacation in the summer)

It`s very good, "BUT, where is my HOUSE"?. My CAR? My ......?

spanky

Bad execution. FYI - Norway is not part of the EU.

Hi. I like your work, the idea is good. Maybe you could make another splashsreen with the geographic Europe? I mean with a map focusing on Europe, but without frontiers :) . No limits. So everyone and their dogs and me should be happy :)) Ah btw the word KDE needs a little more work: the K and the D of KDE shouldn't be so close.

I think this one is a real good thing. I would like to see Europe more as Europe instead of several states more often(although I don't mean on internet especially. Rather in a political and cultural way). I guess this splash goes very well with the KDE-Europe wallpaper I uploaded some time ago *g*

The colours on this map are wrong and misleading. The blue part is not the European Community, since you included Switzerland that is not a member ... and is not the European continent, since you cut off the whole eastern europe and former-Jugoslavia. But I know that it's not your fault ... you have found this picture somewhere on the web and you thought it was accurate ... this confirms what I think since I first had access on the web (quite recently, actually): 99% of the information you find is CRAP.

Yep, i knew that Switzerland wasn't a member or the EU but i tought that it wasn't important. and i know: it is a bad map but i wint change it because it is tou much work: then i have to invent a new slogan -> i will just make a new splash screen

waar is Noord Holland? :P ;)

Why is Europe divided? It's not EU, because Hungary is not yet a part of it. Is no NATO, since NATO != Europe and Czech and Poland are part of IT. It's not OSCE, 'couse many others are not included. It's not Europe, because the spirit of Europe mow is "tolerance", "open" and "extend". So this is a bad splash since there is no Europe there.

Looking at this map, one would conclude that Europe is comprised of only the highlighted countries. Nothing like that. Europe stretches as far to the east as Russia and as south as Turkey. A significant part of Europe has therefore been excluded from this splashscreen. And even the part included is not properly identified as belonging to Europe. How about the former communist countries? Do you claim they are not in Europe just because they don't happen to be in the EU, yet? Or perhaps that KDE is not alive there as well? I'd recommend that you check both your geography and your knowledge of the popularity of free software in non-EU european countries. Chepati.

toonmuylkens

ok, maybe i had to write "KDE is alive in the Europeen Union". Or "KDE is alive in the west side of europe". But who cares!!!! And to put a map of whole europe on a screen of 400X300 pixels....-> Then you can't even recognize the map because it is to small!!

Larson

It's a nice splash screen, stop bitching! =) if you want to get all difficult I can tell you that iceland is missing completely from the map and that norway isn't a member of the EU either. I do not complain however, as the map looks quite cool the way it is! Larson

wouter

Looks nice, but the netherlands are shown totally wrong!! You can't even see the waddenislands and the ijsselmeer, so almost half the country is missing!!! (yes, it is my home country)

toonmuylkens

i think that the map isn't very good. I'm sorry, but i didn't see it yet. I will search a new map!

lezek

erm, correct me if i'm wrong, but hasn't the uk and ireland somehow increased in size and moved to the east? my geography is awful though so what do i know? :) looks great :) good work

toonmuylkens

I think it just seems so because the whole map is turned a little bit to the left.
