Description:
A highly configurable usplash theme based on the Mac OS X loading screen. But with ubuntu logos, and more visual parts.

This theme supports verbose mode and pulsating too.

800x6001024x7681280x8001280x10241440x9001600x12001680x1050
It is untested above 1280x800 because i haven't got a bigger display... please report bugs in the forum
It may work on other resolutions too, but i can't guarantee that. If you want it to ported to your favourite resolution, please tell me about that in the forum

Now it's compiles FAAAST again, and with a more detailed installation process in the README file! so PLEASE READ IT BEFORE INSTALLING
The installation script fixed, so it's not need startup-manager to install anymore!

Would you be opposed to me making an alternate color one... ? I will not release it either, unless you think that'd be a great idea.

Hi there, I couldn't get it to work on my Eee PC laptop, with 600x480 resolution. I've set my Setup-manager to run at 800x480, to try to get closer of 800x600, which is supported by your usplash theme, but I got a screen saying something like "you Passed An Undefined Mode Number", then a went back to 600x480. Is there any way to get it working on my resolution? Also, is there any way to just add it on Setup-manager window? Or do I necessarily need to compile it (which I've done already)? I really hope to get it working, cos it fitted PERFECTLY on my other themes. Thanks a lot

ufoka

Hy! I didn't made a 640*480 version of the theme because the graphics too big, and need to be stretched to fit that resolution, and the main problem with it, how the other resolutions, all using the same graphics... But if there are needs to I make it, I'm start working on it now, but you have to wait one or two days to I finish it.

Hello buddy! Sry... i missed your message for a while, but I'd love if I had it in 640x480, I've tried to do something on my on, unsuccessfully. I'll really appreciate if you do it. Thanks a lot!

ufoka

Hy! I decided to make a sepparate theme for 640x480 because it's much more easyer to do that, than hacking the old one... so I'm working on it :)

ufoka

hy! now the new stretched theme is uploaded :) take a look on it ;)

ufoka

Thanks guys! :)

I just downloaded your latest update. I made the changes to my gutsy install to enable fb again. I added the defopt for 1280x800. I ran update-grub. I installed and configured the .so file for 1280x800. Set /etc/usplash.conf. Ran update-initramfs. Now it doesn't work at all and kicks into text mode. I tried to revert all the changes to at least get back to a working usplash. But even after changing the blacklist and modules file back to original, it still kicks out into text mode. If you have any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

girish133

Also, when I had defopt configured to vga=952, it would error saying that it was an unknown mode.

ufoka

Hy guys! Maybe the 952 mode is specific to my device (via vn896) and you have to search google for a mode for yours... The simptom: compleatly lost the terminal, is appeared to me when used any vga= parameter withot my modifications in gutsy. I did exactly the same with my gutsy, and then i got the vga= parameter back! I tested it many times even in VirtualBox, and two other gutsy computers, and it works. Maybe you lost something, if you correctly rolled back the changes and you still havent got a console, maybe you not removed the vga= parameter. If you still havent got your terminal back you can send me the modified files, and your /var/log/messages file, and I try to find out what's wrong... Finally sorry because this troube, but how I sad, I tested it many times before I published it :S

girish133

Thanks for replying. I did properly revert everything back. Still didn't work. I tried enabling vga16fb and got fb enabled, but still no splash screen. I ended up uninstalling usplash completely and then reinstalling. I'm finally back to where I started and probably won't try any further because I don't want to waste anymore time.

girish133

I do want to add one more thing. After I uninstalled and reinstalled usplash, things worked. But as soon as I configure a different usplash theme, it kicks back into text mode. It doesn't matter which theme I choose. I even tried to remove all the usplash entries and reinstalling each one, but the same thing happens. Works after I uninstall and reinstall usplash. Doesn't after I configure a different theme.

ufoka

Hy! This can indicate two problems, the theme doesn't supports the resolution you selected in usplash.conf or usplash's built in framebuffer controller cant go to that resolution, try to play with /etc/uspalsh.conf... try some regular resolutions like 800x600 or 1024x768

bluelenz

Hi. It looks great. But I met an error as this. /bin/sh: pngtousplash: not found How I can get the pngtousplash?

ufoka

Hy! Please read the README file included in the package and follow the instructions in it! But pngtousplash located in the libusplash-dev package on feisty and gutsy, or usplash-dev on edgy...

girish133

I changed config.h by uncommenting 1280x800. I tried setting /etc/usplash.conf to boh 1024x768 and 1280x800. There is a big, thick, blue border around the usplash screen.

ufoka

Hy! I seen this problem before with an other theme, and I think that happens when you don't use a framebuffer driver. So please follow this: http://ethome.sytes.net/content/pages/newhome/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?3 if you use gutsy to have a working vga=xxx parameter. If you don't you only have to setup the vga parameter as describen in the README file in the package. For 1280x800 i use vga=952.

DesolateOne

I like it, I wish your had some higher resolutions, but my 1680x1050, doesnt look bad at all set to 1280x800. Thanx, good job man!

ufoka

Hy! I make it tomorrow! But unfortunately it's radically increeses the size of the compiled so, even you use any resolution :S I try to find a workaround bot still not found. Any oter resolution requests? P.S. You have to test the hi-res version because I haven't got a display with that resolution...

ufoka

Hy again! Today I found a way to compile the theme with only the images you selected to use. This needs a lot more compile time, but I think wait 3 minutes (With a 3990 bogomips cpu) to have an (only) 2mb theme needs to placed in the initrd is a fair deal... So the hard work is done, now I gona add 1280x1024, 1440x900, 1600x1200 and 1680x1050 resolutions to the existing 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x800. I'l post an update as soon I can!

Usplash

Usplash is a software project in the Ubuntu community. Historically, scrolling text "verbose mode" has typically appeared on Linux computers during boot. Usplash replaces the scrolling-text screens with a graphical splash screen. Wikipedia
