9 Everything okay but one simple thing: I can't hide the Video Player or the Waveform.
Great app! In case it can help someone: AVIs wouldn't open? As for me this was resolved in Settings>Configure SC>Change the default video backend (MPlayer) with Phonon.
Just to inform anyone interested. This project has been (slowly) continuing with development for few years and you can find latest version here: https://github.com/maxrd2/subtitlecomposer
Thanks for letting us know :) I hope you will take this program ahed, it's very useful and good
...it's not being updated since May 2009. Any chance to see any progress on that? I can't help with the devel, I'd do it if I could. Anyway, thanks for your efforts, it's a great app.
i updated the greek translation: http://glenbox.free.fr/files/Subtitle_composer/el/subtitlecomposer.po
There is a confusing mistake in czech translation. In menu the translation of Alt-x and Alt-z is switched. It seems minor, but it kept me think that the feature does not work, as i was trying to set beginning line with alt-x and the last with alt-z which obviouslu could not work.
Hi I am trying to put phonetic writing over an mp3 sound file and everything seems to be working fine except once the words have come up they don't hide again. I have set separate in and out points for each line but it doesn't seem to be working! I am using the program in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. Thanks Redjess
Hi! I just can't get the hang of this (great-looking!) program. I'm sure that it can do everything I need, but there are a couple of things that really confuse me. First, I can't get it to insert the actual time from the video that's playing. It always inserts 00:00. Second, when I've finally got som lines together, I can't save them. The save dialog always jumps back to "Save subtitle", and reverts to the default .ass setting (I want to use .srt). I can't even save as .ass, btw :) Is there some kind of manual that could get me started? I tried the Help button, of course, but the needed .xml file is missing. Version: 0.5.3 Distro: Mandriva 2010.0 KDE 4.3.2 /goran j
I would be willing to translate the interface to italian if that is not already been done by someone. I don't know how to proceed tough, I've only used launchpad for this kind of work until now. Please contact me if you are interested.
If you use my PPA for Subtitle Composer and its GUI doesn't look correctly, you need to copy file subtitlecomposerui.rc to your home folder, ie: Quote:
cp /usr/share/apps/subtitlecomposer/subtitlecomposerui.rc ~/.kde/share/apps/subtitlecomposer/subtitlecomposerui.rc
YES, it works Thank you !!!
i have a question i installed the deb package in my kubuntu karmic and i think that something is missing from the application i can do nothing with the subtitles, only see them i tested it with opensuse and there is everything is that normal? here view screenshots the first is from opensuse and the second from kubuntu http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/2310/snapshot1r.png
Hello, I have 0.5.3 version on Opensuse 11.2. I noticed 2 things you could improve: 1 - If I load a subtitle file in Micro-DVD format and a movie in 25 fps, the program thinks it's 23,976 fps and subtitles are out of sync with the movie until I choose "Time > Change fps" and set From 23,976 To 25,000. 2 - Saving a subtitle file in srt format is not convenient, as someone wrote before me in the comments, it seems you have to choose an existing srt file or type full name from the keyboard. The name should be there already or one could select the .txt file and only change the extension, which should be added automatically because there's an option in the file save window. In this window other files but .srt are invisible.
I see what you mean regarding the first issue, but I don't like the idea of simply matching the FPS property of the subtitle with the FPS of the opened video, as there really isn't a correspondence between the two values. (How should the program know if you've opened a file by mistake? what should the program do when the subtitles specify one value but the movie is in another? what should the program do if it can't determine the FPS of the video file --the phonon backend, for example, does not provide that information). I do realize however that you'd generally want the FPS value saved in the subtitles (for the formats that use it) to match the FPS of the video you are synchronizing against. I think the best way to deal with this would be to ask on save if both values should be matched. Or have an option to automatically synchronize the values on save. About the seconds issue, that looks like a bug. I'll have a look a it when I can.
I do care only about subtitles in MicroDVD format. They don't specify fps value and if I open them together with a movie with same name, it's obvious that I want them synchronized. It's all about _displaying_ subs in Subtitle Composer video previev. Frame-based MDVD format are converted on the fly to time-based to show it in the edit window. All I wish is an checkbox in the preferences: "For frame-based subtitles, if movie file with same name is present and the chosen backend supports detecting fps, synchronize fps with movie fps while opening them both." It's not useful to synchronize them while saving, because first you have to confirm that they are correct, but you can't do it if the program doesn't display them correct. How could someone opens movie file by mistake?? Two files must have same names to be opened together. One should know what he does and he sees what is displayed in preview window, so this isn't an argument.
i really liked the application but... if i have to say the true i was a bit confused . i mean i would think to add a video and then with a right click or a something like that , tool bar for example, create a new srt file instead it seems you should open an existing srt file and then edit it .. i have 0.5.3 version
Could you, please, elaborate on what is it that you found confusing? While you cannot add a video (add a video to what?), you can definitely open one by going to "Video"->"Open Video..." (or by dragging it to the player control or by using the player control context menu). To create a new subtitle, you just have to press the standard tool button titled "New" (which as you would expect, has also the standard "New" icon, and appears first in the tool bar and in the "File" menu).
well that i know now... i explain the situation : Now in order to create a new subtiltle you have to : CTRL N INS and THEN you have the context menu on the "table" where table i mean area which contains Line, Show time ,Hide time, etc etc, if you don't type CRTL N *AND* THEN "INS" YOU HAVE NOT THE CONTEXT MENU on the table So that for me and for other on my blog doesn't make sense it should be 1 CTRL N 2 then you should be able, by clicking with ther right button, to get the context menu with new line etct etc (right button) or maybe better a context meny on the table with this entry: create new subtitle new line before(ins) new lline after ect etc I hope you can understand what i mean
Thank you very much!
Great app! Where to submit buildsystem patches? Since 0.5.2 src/main/CMakeLists.txt lacks ${KDE4_PHONON_LIBS} in target_link_libraries and since 0.5.3 it lacks ${KDE4_KROSSCORE_LIBS} as well. You could update URL to Gentoo ebuilds to http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=proj/kde.git;a=tree;f=media-video/subtitlecomposer They are being developed there. Consider moving to KDE playground/extragear, you'll get bugzilla, cookies, women etc
thanks for reporting. i'll consider moving to KDE playground/extragear in the future.
You should really consider moving to KDE svn
