If someone is interested in something more integrated in KDE take a look at: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=17713 it uses powerful kio-slave technology to see webshots archives directly in konqueror or in any standard kde app (kview, ...).

Slackware 10.2 When i Try to convert some images, kuwc don't work. Pop-up the convert window but d0n't convert anything! This is the output form shell Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/kiojob.py", line 245, in __run res = self.gen.next() File "/usr/batchconversiondlgimpl.py", line 189, in run self.kio_removeTempFile(target) File "/usr/kiojob.py", line 198, in kio_removeTempFile self.tmpfiles.remove(tf) UnboundLocalError: local variable 'tf' referenced before assignment

I will fix that. This only occur when there is a problem while reading a file to convert. Are you sure that read access is allowed and that the files are OK?

i'm with a root privileges. But the batch convert still don't work! But i can use file menu, for convert in Jpeg!

It is a useful tool both for linux and windows. Is there any licencing problem concerning the conversion of Webshots files to jpg? The most popular image viewer on windows, Irfanview supported the Webshots format in the past. Then, Webshots asked to be removed from this utility. I think, the use of Webshots images on linux does not offend the licence, but the conversion? It depends on the Webshots' whim. You can find a library for displaying Webshots images as background images for KDE: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=43440 It can be used by the most popular KDE image viewers too. The thumbnail generation is also possible with this library for konqueror.

Hi, My aim here is not to provide a conversion tool but a mean for displaying WebShots files on my KDE desktop. The desktop background applet has no support for WebShots files but has support for displaying the images contained in a folder. So I use this tool for extracting the images to a folder and I use the desktop background applet for displaying them on my desktop. That's all. If the WebShots team provided a tool for using their files on Linux, I would have no need for this tool. But as it isn't the case...

I mean "extraction" not "conversion". (Conversion: WBZ -> BMP -> JPG Extraction: WBZ -> JPEG in a lostless way.) The problem both "extraction" and "conversion" depend on the Webshots' whim.

I'm not sure, but there is a chance that you can use io slaves to load up files, maybe you can do a wbz://home/user/picture.wbz and it returns a jpg image... I'm not familiar with it, but that may be a way to get around the conversion... or maybe just make a library that kde can use. This can make it so other apps can possibly use wbz images.

I understand you may be frustrated with the lame behaviour of WebShots service. I am too, but take a look here: http://www.webshots.com/html/terms.html?vhost=www#wsuse "You may not use Webshots in any manner that interferes with our normal operations or with the use and enjoyment of another user. You may only access Webshots and the Content through the interfaces provided by Webshots." They locked their users in the way that users grant them right to own the content, for free. Summing up, IANAL, but lawyer will probably tell you that any conversion is illegal (and displaying requires conversion of course, even if only in random memory).
