K3b
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work):
It supports a variety of project types as well as copying of optical media, burning if different types of images, and ripping Audio CDs, Video CDs, and Video DVDs.
Its convenient user interface is targetted at all audiences, trying to be as simple as possible for novice users while also providing all features and advanced user might need.
K3b 2.0 marks the last milestone in the effort to port one of the most popular disk recording applications to KDE's current Platform 4. Although some parts still use legacy libraries, the application takes advantage of the new platform and integrates better with it. Solid, the KDE hardware layer, is now used for hardware detection.
On the interface front K3b 2.0 is a direct port of its KDE3 predecessor. The overall look remains the same but it now uses modern widgets. For example, file browser shows a list of KDE's global Places and takes advantage of the breadcrumb bar. The icons have also been updated to match the rest of the Oxygen theme.
With a few exceptions, K3b keeps feature-parity with 1.0.x series, but it also introduces a number of new features. Perhaps the biggest among these is support for Blu-ray drives. Additionally a lot of work have been put into improving the overall user experience. Some work-flows have been merged abstracting it for all kinds of media.
The K3b team has worked hard to achieve maximum stability of the application, with over 250 bugs being closed during the pre-release period. This process will continue as bug-fixing versions will be released during development of K3b 2.1.
Changes since 1.0.5
* Port to KDE Platform 4
* Always allow manual writing speed selection
* Use proper toolbars instead of the toolboxes -> nicer laying out with different styles
* Merged CD and DVD copy dialogs
* Merged CD and DVD image burning dialogs
* Merged CD-RW erasing and DVD formatting dialogs
* Merged Data CD and Data DVD projects into one plain data project with Blu-ray support
* Merged eMovix CD and eMovix DVD projects
* Removed CD copy option "prefer CD-Text". K3b will now ask individually (there is no need to do this if no mounting is involved)
* Allow importing of arbitrary sessions into a data project, thus continuing other than the last session
* "Clear project" now only clears the added data but leaves the settings as they were (bug 14783
* Added support for files bigger than 4GB via mkisofs 2.01.01a32 and above
* Do only reload the medium for verification if necessary (depends on the writer)
* Support for Blu-ray writing
* Support for DVD and Blu-ray writing via cdrecord
* New audio ripping pattern %e which is replaced by the file extension
* Better support for RTL languages

When ripping audio cd to flac k3b 1.9.2.0 stalls and crashes on last track. I have to terminate the program. When I looked at the folder it seems to have ripped all tracks. I have had same result on several cds. I am on kde 4.4.4 on fedora 13. I have flac-1.2.1-6.fc12.x86_64 lame-3.98.3-1.fc13.x86_64 I also tried it once with mp3 and ripped successfully but program crashed and again had to terminate it.
This is know issue, see here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=236466 It has been already fixed; fix will be available in bugfix release 2.0.1

Maybe you should rename the project? K3b -> k4b ? KDE (apps) 4(for) burning How you think? Besides this is KDE 4 apps...
K3b stands for „KDE Burn Baby, Burn!“ ;-)
since last week (latest svn), k3b can't recognize any media, it shows my device in k3b, it even reads the media info, but when i send any command (format media, burn disk, etc), the dialog asks for a writable media and just stay there. any help appreciated. best regards and keep up the good work.
welcome back!
I just wanted to know whether you are aware of this serious problem with video DVDs burned by k3b that are unreadable in Windows: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5021427#post5021427 Which is the best place to file a bug about this? I am sure it is real and serious, but it may not get any attention in the ubuntu forum (link above) where it's currently. Best, --hasi
on a p4 box with a liteon drive using k3b 1.0.3 the device buffer is always full, yet on my amd box using a pioneer 111d the buffer always sits at 50-60%, although the discs burn (dvd isos) ok its a niggling issue both boxes using 2.6.22.6 kernel
hummmm, i like your playlist ;)
Thanks for the new Release. Works fine, and if my eyes not jocking on me, a new theme. Thanks for this nice Software, one of my favourite KDE-Apps. Seraphyn
This is one application that makes KDE standout above other desktop environments. For the most part, it just works, which really is all I care about. My sincerest gratitude to all those involved in designing, building and maintaining one of the premier Linux applications.
When i start k3b 1.0.2 on slackware current totally freeze my machine(sysrq don't work),and i read only on console "scsi illegal request error code=70" How to solve? Thanks
you can vote for a better dvd-ripping backend here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134430 would be great if one could create ogg-theora or x264+vorbis+mkv or xvid+vorbis+mkv files with k3b!
Let's make this clear: This is one of those *musthave* applications (like digikam/amarok/etc), that make people wanna change from *your-os-here* to a free *nix. *Your_MS-"Wow"_here*
The best application for burn CD/DVD :p Thanks ;)
any plans to integrate an audio crossfading feature ? i really miss such thing when creating new audio cds. thanks for this great program !
This is amazing. Iv used the older versions and was happy with them but I think improvements have been made. Good work guys! The only issue I have had is with video transcoding but I suspect that is due to a problem with dependencies. Keep up the good work!
k3b-1.0-2.lotus.i586.rpm at http://home.scarlet.be/raoul.linux/lotus.html Note : OGG , FLAC and MP3 included
thank you!
Great, your version works also with SUSE 10.0
Great release, however I have two (very small) niggles: 1. In the burn/copy dialog - the button order should be "Start/Cancel", and not "Cancel/Start". The current ordering seems at odds with the button order on the other dialogs. 2. KDE uses the term "Folder" and not "Directory" ...but overall, a fantastic release of a fantastic application!
