We've just added this to Ark Linux -- Ark Linux users can just "apt-get install kio-p7zip", users of other rpm based distributions might want to try our RPMs at http://arklinux.osuosl.org/dockyard-devel/i586/kio-p7zip-0.3.1-1ark.i586.rpm http://arklinux.osuosl.org/dockyard-devel/SRPMS/kio-p7zip-0.3.1-1ark.src.rpm

Excellent work. It'd be great to see it ported to the 7zip library. As you stated, relying on an executable has some serious drawbacks. I'm just wondering why you named the KIO slave "p7zip:/". Wouldn't "7zip:/" or "7z:/" make a lot more sense? p7zip is just the name of the 7zip port to Linux, and really has nothing to do with the file format itself. Anyway, that's just a suggestion. Keep up the good work. Oh, and have you considered adding support to open .tar.7z files in a single step?

alphi

It supports all the archive types that 7zip does, not just 7zip's own format.

please get this in KDE 4, or even 3.5.3!

rgfernandes

Sorry, but this kioslave is far from ready. I should to rewrite the kioslave to use the 7-zip library directly instead using the 7za program and this will take some time. Using the 7za program leads to some limitations.

well, KDE 4 is still a year off, so... :D

mattepiu

inserting p7zip:/path/file.7z worked, how do I tell my Konqueror to open every file with the kio? settings-> file association -> integration didn't solved.

rgfernandes

My fault. I forgot to include the mimetype. Thanks for the report.

mattepiu

If is just the mymetipe .desktop file, could you please put it in the download (as secondary download?)

gladiac

Sorry, but kio_p7zip doesn't work. I've created an rpm for openSUSE, which ships with KDE 3.4.2. I get a dialog and it asks me wether to save or open it with another application.

rgfernandes

This is a bug in this version. Sorry. I will release a new version with fix.

angrykeyboarder

When can we expect that?

Hi I would like to create a KIO too, but I don't find any _good_ documentation. I found http://www.heise.de/ct/english/01/05/242/ but it's not enough. Where is my dream ? :p Or where can I find a small KIO showing only two folders for instance, in order to work with a good base ? Thanks...

The screenshots are from CVS version of konqueror. Nice. Archives are shown like directories.

pinaraf

What is that burn:/ in the toolbar ? It looks nice !

rgfernandes

It is kio_burn (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=14779) Another cool kioslave.
