GRASS GIS 7.0.2 released
19 Nov 2015
http://grass.osgeo.org

The GRASS GIS Development team has announced the release of the new major version GRASS GIS 7.0. This version provides many new functionalities including spatio-temporal database support, image segmentation, estimation of evapotranspiration and emissivity from satellite imagery, automatic line vertex densification during reprojection, more LIDAR support and a strongly improved graphical user interface experience. GRASS GIS 7.0.0 also offers significantly improved performance for many raster and vector modules: "Many processes that would take hours now take less than a minute, even on my small laptop!" explains Markus Neteler, the coordinator of the development team composed of academics and GIS professionals from around the world. The software is available for Linux, MS-Windows, Mac OSX and other operating systems.

GRASS data (raster and vector) can be read via GDAL and OGR (www.gdal.org).

just to let everybody know, i am coding a grass ui using qt4 (beta2) these days. the first goal is to have a monitor interface. the widgets are pretty much done, yet they have to be filled with the lines to actually draw something. right now i am thinking about moving into using qt4's "interview" model/view architecture. i'll drop a note on the grass ui mailing list as soon as something usable has come to life. s'long, CRiSCHAN

great to hear! please keep us informed how the progress is going on. It would be very good to send a mail onto the GRASS devel. list so that everybody knows your project http://grass.itc.it/mailman/listinfo/grass5

> great to hear! please keep us informed how the progress is going on. Yes, it's nice. But until you have anything to offer for KDE, take this entry away from this site. I fully agree with previous poster. Go spam elsewhere.

Sorry, but GRASS is not a KDE project, it was developed with Tcl/TK, not with Qt. QGIS is another project, independant from GRASS, but can manage some GRASS files. I don't understand this entry here.

you are right the UI which comes with GRASS is tcltk, not QT - other UI projects are on the way e.g. QGIS which is a stand-alone GIS but can be used as GRASS data access frontend. The GRASS team would be very happy if somebody would revitalise/initalise the QT UI for GRASS. I apologise for posting a not yet truly KDE software but sooner or later we'll come to this point. best regards on behalf of the GRASS Development Team

The entire project is written in C. So useing QT/KDE for layout will have some implications ;) .

The GRASS Project team is looking for posters that can be used to show what GRASS is and what GRASS can do!! The GRASS community will vote for the best posters. The best three will be made available on the GRASS project website. http://grass.itc.it/newsletter/postercontest.php
