Got this since jaunty and still with karmic. I open it with a script connecting the dsl modem. sometimes it works, sometimes not. If not, i have the same starting it by bash or kde commandline. if knetstats remains open while shutdown, it wont get restored next time i boot, there's an error message about not being able to connect to dcop server. very annoying, as there is no certain error message and sometimes the error is there and sometimes not. there is no change in what i do before knetstats is opened, i connect to dsl right after the machine is up. sometimes i get a tray icon, sometimes not. weird.
p.s. i have 2 totally different machines with kubuntu, both have this problem, although the other one has a permanent router connection. so it's not about pppd or something.
It seems that unless I compile the package ON the machine I want to use it on (I downloaded a package using opensuse's build service) that the icon's refuse to dock to the system tray. Any idea on how to force them to dock?
Is there any option to disable popups ? I have a lot of 'eth0 is disconnected', followed immediately by 'eth0 is connected', on my wifi connection.
First of all I have to say that your app works very good, thanks. It would be very nice, if the scale of the traffic plotter could be set to some fixed maximum, because otherwise it is quite difficult to know what is really going on. Even nicer it would be if it could be set to use a logarithmic scale. This way one could see little amounts too even when maximum is big. For example the range from 100 B/s to 100 MB/s would need only six scale lines. (100 B/s - 1 KB/s - 10 KB/s - 100 KB/s - 1 MB/s - 10 MB/s - 100 MB/s - Even the range from 1 B/s to 100 MB/s should be possible.)
how i can add aditional iconsets ?
I must say: Wow!!! I can't believe I haven't see this tool earlier. From Mandriva there was something like this and knetworkmanager but with fedora I was a little disapointed because I miss that. For me knetworkmanager isn't solution I was looking because I don't use networkmanager, I do my connections manually. But I wanted something to look at the network activity easy (graphics and text info) and I was using superkaramba (I know how silly that is). And now my problem is solved. Thank you!!!
Great application, I have to say. But there is a small bug in it: When I switch to text mode the upload and download texts are on each other. Only decreasing the font size to 8-9px solves this problem. But in that case the texts are unreadable. And a wish: It would be good if the application showed some upload/download rate information in icon mode when I place the cursor on the icon. Like in Amarok, you can read some information in the tooltip.
im having an issue: when i start kde with the wifi switch off, knetstats show me "dev[some number]" disconnected instead of eth1 disconnected. And when i switch on the wifi (eth1) and do an ifup eth1, knetstats crashes. Is ther a solution for that?? thx in advance
This has been fixed on 1.6.1.
thanks for the replay but the problem persits. I forgot to mention that iam having this problem after i installed vmware workstation, even so i disabled the vmware services. Also i erased the file ~/.kde/share/config/knetstatsrc and reinstall netstats 1.6.1 but nothing. I hope i can be fixed because its a great application.
Thanx, it's a great little app - with less power consumtion than the knemo-plotter needs ! To return the favour I made a debian package which you can find here: http://harrys-home.gmxhome.de/knetstats_1.6-1_i386.deb Made (and tested only) on a Debian Unstable Box (Kanotix) with KDE 3.5.3.

In fact, this was the third app I would have installed, had it not failed.
Just downloaded the rpm version and plopped it on to my SuSE 10. Works great - Thank you!
A wish: It would be nice if it was possible to configure a fixed scale on each interface. So that the load diagram could show % of total (specified) bandwith.
A suggestion: An another icon with a PC in front and a globe behind to symbolize a interface connected to the internet.
A SlackWare TGz package with SlackBuild Script is Ready to DownLoad!!! http://www.slacky.it/ http://www.slacky.it/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=1&func=fileinfo&filecatid=916&parent=category
Thanks, I'll put your package on the sourceforge download server.
really nice app, works almost like in windows :) thanks man
Thanks for the handy app. There's a helpful article at http://www.orangecrate.com/article.php?sid=962 and though the article was written for SUSE 9.2 it works on 9.3 as well. There were a number of undefined character messages generated (which I assumed was due to my use of kdelibs 3.0.4-20.7, python 2.4-14, or some other package more recent than those used in the app's creation) but the final product works fine.

knetstats is not a copy, and i realised this by the time i was trying to find a tray app, that displays the traffic usage in numbers instead of "leds" knemo was not succeed in this, so i tried to find something better.. knetstats was the good one, but now i cannot compile (merge) it on my current gentoo distro :( (it gives me a long, and strange error, firstly complaining about the absence of lsb_release, then comes a lot of error messages about some kind of kde, or python error, that i cannot really understand :(((
It's a duplicate of Knemo
Thanks ot let me know KNemo, I tested it and appear to be a nice KDE service. In this release (1.3) I'm using some icons themes from KNemo (network, modem and wireless), and also the "theme idea" of course. (See the message on aboutbox/credits)

Hi, I also use gentoo 2004.3, but with GCC v3.3.3. What's the version of your KDE libs? P.S.: I'll get the GCC 3.3.5 later and try to compile.
