Description:
MDic is a multilingual dictionary for GNU/Linux operating system.

You have to only select (or highlight) a word to view its meaning on the screen.
MDic is able to pronounce the words by default if espeak tool is installed, and for KDE users with kttsd. It is also possible to use Babylon glossaries (.bgl) , Stardict dictionaries (.ifo) , Freedict dictionaries (.tei) and Sdictionary dictionary (.dct) by converting them via "mdicconv" convertor or PyGlossary tool.

The pre-requirements to use MDic is Qt4 library, and GNU Aspell library.

you can use MDic on both KDE or GNOME Desktop Environments.

Fantastic app, but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this problem. If a definition is longer than x characters, it seems, it will just be cut off. Here's an example: ---------cut--------------- intuition: [b33/a19] intuitions are one of two sorts of representations which we synthesize to form exper --------end cut----------- But I am quite certain that the dictionary entry is longer than this. Any ideas? thanks, -R

hmmm, i think you use bgl2mdb converter, it's this script's problem. to solve it, i develop mdicconv app(extends dictconv) it supports other dictionaries too. to convert dictionaries use it! (we want to notify about it on next release, because of a bug in current version, ignore Unicode characters -like Persian words- on searching!) you can get latest project's snapshot from svn server, fixes sum bugs and added sum features like options to configure espeak and option to tune databases to increase Dictionary speed... thanks for your comment

Where can I get dictionaries? Babylon's require buying their stuff. A nice addition would be an internal downloader for dictionaries. Ever seen "wordpoint" (win9*, winnt) ?? ALt/click on a word and get translations in several languages. Extracts word by a hooked dll, not by OCR (but gpl ocrs are around on most distros!) Same technology in answers.com applet. Any way to do this in QT4 (or X)?

mtux

you must download Dictionaries manually. Babylon has sum free glossaries. use their. we will release a tool to Convert Dictionaries from several formats to MDic format so soon! about "wordpoint" and its way, i don't have any idea now, we will think about it...
