Description:
"Razor-qt is a fork of antico.
It aims to be efficient with the available screen-area and to make working with multiple windows more easy.
It supports tiling and has only a single launcher menu and a gui-customizable favourites-menu...."
----------------------------------
The times are changing!
Razor-QT (fork of antico) is dead, long-live Razor!
----------------------------------

Razor has matured, its not a fork of anything anymore. It has been completely rewritten and has a cleaner codebase then ever.
Its also not Desktop-Environment anymore, its more like a "desktop-toolbox" now.
It tries to supply you with anything you need to build a productive desktop (panel, session management, desktop-icons) but it wont force you to anything.

The rules are:
* You choose, what you use!
So all the components are working independantly

* We are everywhere!
Razor runs on all OSes that support POSIX, Xlib, qt4 and have _NET_WM compatible window-managers.
It has been tested to work on FreeBSD-8.1 (amd64) and Arch Linux (x86).

Screenshots:
The Screenshots show the splash-screen, the whole desktop and the localized XDG-compatible menu.

Features:
* razor-panel
o mainmenu (an Xdg-compatible menu) [Status: Very Experimental only working under Linux (maybe with correct settings under FreeBSD too - dont know)]
o razorspinbutton (a spinning quicklaunch-button) [Status: works]
o taskbar (well a taskbar) [Status: works]
o traybar (a traybar) [Status: unstable]
o clock (a clock) [Status: works]

* razor-session

*
o Splashscreen (a themeable splashscreen) [Status: works]
o Powerman. via Dbus (at the moment only reboots, shuts down) [Status: works]
o Starts Openbox and razor-panel then [Status: works]

* razor-desktop

o generates icons from .desktop files in ~/Desktop
o makes a wallpaper.

This is the second real release-candidate of the new Razor, so of course there will be bugs, please report them to me via the bugtracker on sf.net or via mail

For installation guidelines see the README inside the package or visit the project-wiki (razor-qt.sf.net)

Hi, i try compile and use it (debian testing i386 under VirtualBox): 1, installation instructions (wiki) are bad 2, commit both (trunk and branches) is not very good idea, but works 3, cd to source don't works, the branches/razor-reborn directory don't exists 4, compilation success under trunk/razorqt/ and under trunk/ too 5, install success (maybe) 6, first login fails with message "Xession: unsupported number of arguments (2)" 7, uninstall success ;-) regards

Hi, yea i just merged the experimental tree with trunk so it actually needs some more work on trunk and on the docs before this one can really be useful. So just stay tuned - there is an RC2 not too far away :) Regards, Chris

i want to see, what and how is develloped in this project. Your SVN comments are nice: "modified , text changed" :-D and link to SF don't works: There was an error processing your request ... Group not found for name: razor-qt

VdoP

Hi, thanks for your Interest. At the moment its mostly me writing everything that a few users i often ask for advice want and that fits the concept of "desktop-toolkit" as described in the wiki. Well the link: http://razor-qt.sf.net should work, I just tested it. Anyway, we mainly coordinate via mail and the qtDesktop google-group http://groups.google.com/group/qtdesktop-devel Greetings Chris

Thank for quick reply ;-) OK, link works now. And you are right, i am interested about this project, but i can't help as developer. I am KDE user for years, but i am not using all the KDE environment, because i love to be free :-) then i use a lot of independed apps - the mix of GTK and Qt apps. When i first read about antico, the project was stopped, but is is nice (for me) to have Qt environment. I must tell you one thing – idea about independed tools in DE is very, very nice for me! One other question – what about dualhead, or better nVidia xinerama support? With many others WM (FluxBox, FVWM, OpenBox, XFCE, ...) i go to problems with this. They all works, but...

VdoP

Hi, I heard of the dualhead-problems already. Petr Vanek has submitted a patch to me, that was recently commited. It should make it at least usable. You can try to build it from SVN (Rev 114 contains this patch). Do not await many options, as this is not "top-of-the-agenda" right now. Regards, Chris
