You might enjoy PenguinTV in GNOME, for audio/video podcasts. It's really quite cool, and DOES launch totem etc.; part of what inspired me to make KatchTV.
p.s.: I'm not sure, but I think you meant the GNOME Desktop Environment (or GNOME Desktop, or simply GNOME). The GNOME Window Manager is a very specific single program (which isn't a strong selling point for GNOME either ;)
