Uhm... I haven't this error with Slack 9.1 and 10. Maybe some missing libraries in your distro?
kstandarddirs.h is a file included in kde libraries. Do you need something like "kde-devel" package?

The compile.sh script tells me, that a file named kstandarddirs.h is missing.

My distro is SuSE 9.1 with KDE 3.2.3. All headers are installed. May be the missing file got another name in KDE 3.2.3?
I found the solution: I had to set maually the absolute include- and the lib- paths in the compile script. Now it works.
