Description:
Punt gives KDE users a Dock just like their Mac OS X cousins. It is also intended to eventually be a drop-in replacement for Kicker, but I would highly recommend against using it as such at present. This program is currently in the very earliest stages of development, so I can promise you that it is not going to do everything you want it to do. (Heck, I can't promise you that it will work at all!) Punt is based on early betas of Mac OS X, since Qt/KDE/X11 does not support transparency/translucency to any acceptable degree. Besides, if I were to make it look any closer to the Dock than it already does, I would probably end up getting a knock on my door from Apple (and I just might be pushing it already... )

In any event, you are welcome to download and try this program out. You'll at least get a general idea for what it will eventually do.
Last changelog:

0.10-RELEASE:
*Initial public release. I've been sitting on the original Punt for over a year. This is a from-scratch rewrite.

0.10-RELEASE (re-release):
*Missing KdeIcon.cpp and KdeIcon.h prevented Punt from compiling. After adding the files to the archive, it should work just fine. (My apologies. )

fred

this is agreat idea! never mind the score and keep un working! THANKS!

Goamaus

that people are rating down this good concept... I think, its really good, when its ready. Do you plan transparency by the way? I am not sure, if I read about this. But at least me can not wait to get a (working) version of this ;-)

I believe it's the screenshot. It doesn't show anything special. And maybe the description should tell if it _works_ like the apple one, the way icons "jump" on the screen.

detsaot

Sorry for the bad screenshot, but it really doesn't do too much yet (no jumping). I'm working on getting the core functionality working (drag-n-drop, configurability) before putting in the eye candy. It will eventually support jumping icons (KSplash/ML does, why shouldn't this? :)), and will support icon "zooming" on mouseover, but this code is not robust enough to deal with that yet. It will be in the future. I will be posting updates as I progress on the development of this project. :) -dT-

not to jump? buy a mac, if you want one...

Dany-CL

you are kidding, aren't you? Are you always reacting so quickly? One is submitting a project, questions are given, I really don't understand why you think , for godsake, that I'm gonna buy a mac just to see an icon jump, as some wm still do it (give a look at windows maker or enlightenment). Sorry if I seems rude, but I don't find you really funny nor aware of the subject. Have a nice day Dany-CL

Goamaus

just my opinion...

Goamaus

I meant the translucent Kicker patch...

Goamaus

but it destroyed first my keramik theme, and at the second tryout my whole kde3, cause I installed a missing library and that conflicted a.s.o. a.s.f. :(

q3a7vod4

keep trying. Also, there is a patch for kicker transparency, i saw it on kdelook a few days ago check it out. Maybe it would be easier for you to modify kicker itself to look like you want it. just a thought. Some very talented developers worked on kicker.

Goamaus

but it still doesn't install... :( (at least not on MDK 8.2) greetings, Mona
