First, id like to say that most of the things on my desktop are not part of the default KDE 3.4. The icons are nuvola, the taskbaris taskbar v2 and hte windeco is crystal-gl. the wallpaper is mine as well. but other than that, it is all kde 3.4.
Picture 1- Shows the new icon zooming. This has a cool looking animation as well. However, it does not have "OSX" icon zooming. but i think i like this better anyway.
Picure 2- This shows the new hide button, which uses icons from your icon set instead of the old ugly arrow.
Picture 3- This is the new settings
kioslave. this creates a kcontrol in konqueror. It is somewhat similiar to the control panel in windows.Picture 4- This is the new kinfocenter. There is a new section for opengl, but currently it just displays the welcome screen if you click on it. This will hopefully be a future we will see in the future.
Picture 5- This is the new keyboard status applet. im not really sure what it does, but it is supposed to help out people with disabilities.
Picture 6- I do not know if this is new or not, but it is a picture of the Devices applet.
Picture 7- This is the MediaControl applet.
Picture 8- I was just testing out my KDE: ReLuna theme in kde 3.4. It works great.
Picture 9- This is just a screenshot of my desktop.
Pictures 10 and 11- These show the new support for greyscale icons.
I think it is also worth noting that there is no support for svg wallpapers at the moment. another feature i was looking forward to was more advanced support for logitech mice. i still have not found this either. However, i have seen a large performance improvement with kde 3.4 and it is quite stable.

I have the ability to choose SVG, although I must say that it is rendering my default wallpaper very weird. I compiled with konstruct, as well as by hand.
When you go to the desktop configuration to add a wallpaper. Click on the open folder and scroll down to the bottom of the filter list and you'll see scalable vector graphics as a wallpaper choice. Now I'm not sure if you compiled this option in or not. However I have it with my compile
nooooooooooooo i dont have it. do you know what file it is and what i have to do to compile it with svg support?
it should be in kdebase under the desktop sub directory. Try recompiling that.
I noticed in your last comment that you said SVG wallpapers were not supported. I am using the same version of KDE and I am able to use svg wallpapers.
how? what exactly do you do to use an svg wallpaper? i tried dragging it to the dtop, that didnt work, and neither did the the desktop config thing.
I have used yoper before this. I istall think the "apt-get" is kind of weak for it, but other then that it is fast, faster then my gentoo
I think u might be able to help me. I installed kde 3.4 in my home directory, how do i run kde 3.4 desktop environment?
this isnt the "official" way, but i just did a kdesu konqueror /usr/bin/ and copied the bin files from my home directory to /usr/bin/. i backed up the originals, of course so that if anything goes wrong, i can restore the old ones. one thing, the kicker that loads is the old one. so after kde starts i just do alt+F2 killall kicker alt+F2 kicker that loads the new one. and how is yoper?

those are some sweet desktops, regardless if it is kde 3.4 What distro are u using. I would like to try kde 3.4 as well. Is there any reason why I should not use kde 3.4 instaed of 3.3.2? I'm using gentoo if that helps. If u could tell me how u got it on your computer, that would help me :)
im using yoper. (yoper.com) installing yoper takes only between 8-20 minutes. those desktops are not the default however, if you want some of those themes im using, click my name to see my other submissions. installing kde 3.4 needs you to download a file called konstuct, then extract it to somewhere. you can download konstruct from the link in kde 3.4 Beta 1 in the news to the right on this site. once you have extracted konstruct, open a terminal in that folder(you should probably use a WM other than kde while instlaling it) then do cd meta/kde make install and thats it. it will take a few hours to compile. and it should work on gentoo as well if oyu dont feel like changing distros. i use yoper because of its speed(as fast or faster than gentoo), but like i said, it only takes 15 minutes to install it instead of the days it takes to do a full gentoo install.
