OK, the Alpha version with real transparency is somehow crap, but the 1.0.0 is quite good. The only thing I haven't discovered yet is how to add new Icons, that is damn difficult. I downloaded the configurator and the wizard, but in the configurator I can only remove Icons, not add new ones. How do I do that? And the wizard doesn't do anything, as it seems.

Okay, this baby works great, but configuring it is like pulling teeth. The docker in Mac is so bloody easy to use, I think you need to think about usability. When people wish to add new icons to the docker they should be able to open up the CONFIGURATOR - and just add a new icon by just linking to the execuatble, similar to the of the ktaskbar. All this ho hum about groups and this and that confuses the hell out of newbies (we sell Linux to aloooottt of newbies) I KNOW!! you can drop in icon links from the desktop, but thats just tedious. Also, whats with the following problems: We still advise people to use 0.38 because 1.0 just doesnt work. It loads but nothing shows, and console output is just not helpful, debug doesnt work either. Icons just disappear at random from the docker and then pop back up again, and whats with the blank spaces? AND!! the great thing about the Mac docker is that it can be moved to the top, bottom, right or left of your screen, why cant we move it. Well thats my rant. It funky eye candy, but we won't use it full time until its a little more solid. Cheers

(a) It's alpha. Which means that it's in development, and should never be used in production. It's released for testing purposes. (b) It's free software, and released as is where is. If you're not paying for it, be greatful someone has taken the time out of their busy life to produce it. Perhaps support them by providing polite and helpful bug reports, or even assist with the coding by providing patches.

Wow!! you are cranky!! Just a comment dude get over it. And we already provide financial support to some OS apps, and the BSD distro PC-BSD. Have a cherry day! And remeber RELAX!! Go to it!!!

Matti

Just responding to your self-proclaimed "rant". I know from personal experience that these kinds of "comments" are very de-motivating from a developer's perspective. Just something for you to bear in mind, although most of your other posts here seem to be positive. Maybe you were just having a bad day - like me.

Well - I was never able to configure this app. But this time it shot everything: Though being active it just doesn't show up! Would be great to have some simple tutorials for beginners...

arthur-kalm

I second that. I always wanted to use this app but was never able to figure out how to configure it. I attempted to read you howto on your website but I was still not able to figure it out. A howto for beginners would be great.

mETz

Some usable gui would be even better. The configuration dialog always scared me away.

bushwakko

hehe, actually I tried it once too, but gave up! :D Looks damn good though.

kism

I would like antialiased fonts on KXDocker.

jazztyle

i have tried kxdocker several times... in my opinion it has no easy-understandable menus (hey, its a desktop app) and there is no easy-understandable way to configure it (themes, plugins etc, which is very hard to understand how it should be done), its very slow too and consumes mucho cpu power, and it is full of weird bugs... on the other hand: its an app for linux and thats always good and there is always a chance to improve everything... just my 2 cents...

there are alot of problems with this that just made me give up and uninstall it. i'd reinstall when/if there are fixes. the drag and drop does not work very well, or hardly at all, or not at all in some instances. when changing icons, other icons lock and become all the same. I can't remove certain settings such as "lan"...just keeps coming back. the move to top is disabled. but is there. how weird/pointless. I know I can move it to top with the "force top" but the icons should grow downwards in that kind of setting...which it doesn't. i'd also like to be able to have it veritcal. I wanted to use it as mainly a replacement for desktop icons. it would be cool to disable the current applications from popping up.

I installed kxdocker 0.35 with apt-get in Debian. Then I downloaded the newer version and compiled it myself (I'm a noob :P...). I have some plugins that I can use in the older version through the Configurator. What I'm asking is: is there a way to use the plugins on the new version without compiling again? --- Copy some directories or something? I'v tried a few things and didn't make it... I'm not much of a programmer... you know...

kism

Only one thing: anti-aliased fonts, please.

mcdragon

Hi, I've don't see what i do and than I've delete the button for the Startmenu or Kmenu ;). Can u give me the infos;settings that i can manually put it back there?? Thanks, Marc

elgx

i'll download rigth now. b ut how to install it? and how to make this start? thanks.

elgx

Oh My, LOL, i was wondering.. NOT how to install, but HOW TO CONFIGURATE, please.

mcdragon

Open a Command window in the direcery where u've placed the *.rpm and type: rpm -i name.rpm and than enjoy.

tiffercat

This is a great app but I am having a couple of problems. 1. The configurator does not seem to save any of the changes I make in it unless I actually hit the save button. 2. No matter how I remove the entries in Alias tab they ALWAYS come back when I restart Kxdocker. What am I doing wrong ?? Some changes seem to be saved okay but others are just ignored. I am running FC4 and I have downloaded v0.36 and resources 0.12 Any help would be great !!

tiffercat

DOH !! There is a plugin called xMount and the default setting for this is to AutoAddAlias as Yes. Set it to no and remove the aliases you don't want and there you go.

jyss

(I think it's noobish anyway) How do I make the docker use the graphics card (the card's GPU) instead of using the CPU? [Yo is you dont know just move on :-)]

wuf

I use KoolDock (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=12097). What is the difference? Wuf

antidragon

I couldn't compile the program I tried 9 times and I always got the same result, something about no rule to compile x.cpp which is needed by y.mod. :(

antidragon

Just had another go.. but there's no kxdocker in /usr/bin/ I guess it hasn't refreshed yet....

mseidl

and such? after the dcop section, it lists / /dev/ /proc/ /sys and such. i removed them in the config but they always pop back up. anybody have a clue how to get rid of this? overall the work is great. keep it up. just need to figure out how to fine tune. for those of you having troubles installing/getting it to run... goto the homepage of the project and grab the latest source, and then compile i used the fedora rpm but it didnt work after i installed it. but after the src it worked great.
