bootsplash:- (loading graphics before kdm) 1:- extract '29662-fingerprint-bs.tar.gz' to '/etc/bootsplash/themes/' 2:- edit '/etc/bootsplash/themes/fingerprint-bs/config/bootsplash-1024x768.cfg' making sure the picture files/paths are correct. 3:- edit '/etc/sysconfig/bootsplash' making sure THEME= whatever the directory name is, under /etc/bootsplash/themes/. (for instance mine:- 'THEME="fingerprint-bs"') 4:- konsole and type 'mkinitrd' ksplash:- (loading graphics after kdm) 1:- konsole type 'kcmshell4 ksplashthememgr' 2:- select 'install theme file' and select 'login-scan-splash.tar.gz' the 5mb version for KDE4. kdm:- (fingerprint theme for kdm) 1:- sudo zypper in kdebase3-kdm 2:- extract 'login-scan-fusion-0-3-1.tar.gz' into '/opt/kde3/share/apps/kdm/themes/' 3:- yast2 -> system -> sysconfig editor 3a:- navigate to 'Display Manager' then change 'DISPLAYMANAGER' field from 'kdm4' to 'kdm' (NOT kdm3!) 3b:- navigate to 'Display Manager' then change'DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME' to 'login-scan-fusion' 4:- konsole and type 'kcmshell kdm' 4a:- set background as 'no picture' and options -> colors = black. (u see the background color before kdm and after kdm, setting it to black makes it blend in.)

under gentoo, it seems not to allow kdm to start on vt7. it claims that "setting up kdm [ ok ]" but it never switches to vt7 and when I do it manually, x hasn't started on it. any ideas? I'm going to do more homework on this and post if I find anything.

I figured this out. It works fine under 2.6.15-gentoo-r5, but not under 2.6.16-gentoo-r1. Therefore it is a problem with the kernel. It appears that (since I have an nVidia card) The framebuffer used to display the splash screen doesn't allow the nvidia kernel module to load (a hard-to-unravel problem with nVidia cards), therefore not allowing X to start. I'll post a solution if I figure one out.

Did you tried to re-emerge botsplash utils and re-generate the initrd file? Could fix, I'm using gentoo +kde +bootsplash with kernel (gentoo-sources) 2.6.16-r6. And I have an nvidia card.

TheGeek

put the Fingerprint dir in /etc/bootsplash/themes, edit the /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash, and run mkinitrd

I've checked that error I get when trying to load this theme as a default bootsplash theme... "The greeter theme is corrupt --------- The theme does not contain definition for the username/password entry element." Any cure for it?

GRUB...SUSE 10 I tried installing both bootsplash theme and KDE splash theme (through KDE config) and both installations failed. KDE Control gives this message: This theme requires the plugin Moodin which is not installed. And GRUB/Gnome bootsplash installer also reports some error with it..can't remember which one though. Is it my SUSE or this theme. I like it very much and would like it operational on my box. I'm open to suggestions.

I just installed this today and I love it! I installed the similar KDM theme yesterday and they're both wonderful! One small thing: in English we say "in the word" rather than "on the word"

timmyisdaman

"on the planet" also works

Hi, it looks pretty good, i'm gonna try it now. Though i reccommend you to change your config file: # name of the picture file (full path recommended) jpeg=/etc/bootsplash/themes/fingerprint-bs/images/bootsplash-1024x768.jpg silentjpeg=/etc/bootsplash/themes/fingerprint-bs/images/silent-1024x768.jpg You put something like login-blabla instead of fingerprint-bs Cya
