Description:Right now editing of recipes is possible. The file format of the recipes is RecipeXML, but this will change in the future to allow more information.

Have you looked at KRecipes already? It's quite advanced and a KDE 4.0 port is already there (I'm using 2.0-alpha4). They use RecipeML as well for importing/exporting, but use due to extra features use their own format. Have you considered joining forces with them? ;) link: http://krecipes.sourceforge.net/ (page is somewhat ancient, but their SVN is quite active)

Nevermind. I didn't notice the tarball doesn't include a directory, so I just went and 'cd kookie' which wasn't the main directory. :-)
