The new rankings are still coming in for 2023, and Arc-Darkest-COLORS enjoys another #1 & also a #6 spot in the GTK Linux world - according to top Linux/GTK sites: 'itsfoss,' and ubuntupit Thanks again faithful users! https://itsfoss.com/best-gtk-themes/ https://www.ubuntupit.com/best-mate-themes-for-linux/
The Arc-Darkest-COLORS theme is based on the Arc Design standards and aims to bring a warm, colorful, and elegant experience to your desktop. Here, the existent Arc hues are measurably dimmed - with a single new color introduced - just where you need it. Arc theme has prevailed as the most popular theme for the past few years, according to major sources: https://www.ubuntupit.com/top-15-best-gnome-shell-themes-gnome-desktop/.
The well-embraced standard Arc theme has always been available in the three variants of Arc, Arc-Dark, and Arc-Darker; but, at last, a fourth and measurably even darker dark-Arc has arrived on the GTK+ scene. Even at it dimmest, the earlier Arc variants have never quite satisfied those who need the lights turned down real low, but this fourth variant should fix all of that.
The forth Arc desktop theme darkens only six elements, on the whole, but where it happens makes all the difference. Significantly, keeping the official Arc hues, contrasts, and structure intact, where possible, was foremost in this project's objective. Thus, nothing is altered where it doesn't have to be. The goal was invariably to keep Arc as we know it, while merely darkening the elements necessary to align with the brightness values more associated with what heavy users demand from dark themes. We hope we achieved that for you.
Special thanks to horst3180 at: https://github.com/horst3180/Arc-theme, for initially advancing Arc, and for inspiration. Further thanks to NicoHood at: https://github.com/NicoHood/arc-theme, for keeping Arc alive and great, more currently.
This is the matching desktop theme.
For matching Arc-Darkest-COLORS Icons & Folders GO TO https://www.pling.com/p/1333807/.
Both the Suru++ and the Numix icons and folders have been carefully crafted to match the new Arc-Darkest-COLORS desktop scheme, but they can surely compliment other desktop themes that sport matching color hues.
Special thanks to the Numix team for their inspiration, expertise and contributions at: https://github.com/numixproject/numix-icon-theme. The Suru-grounded icon set was initially designed and developed by Sam Hewitt - under GPL3. The original Suru icon set and concept was created by Matthieu James - Canonical Design Team. Core developers are Andrea Bonanni (original author) and Gustavo Costa . Devices icons are inspired by La Capitaine created by Keefer Rourke - under GPL3/MIT. Emoji icons are derived from the Twenoji created by Twitter Team - under MIT. Some icons are based on Numix mimetypes icons created by the Numix Team - under GPL3. Devices and places icons and several apps icons are inspired by Papirus icons created by Alexey Varfolomeev - under GPL3. Numberless icons are from Gravit Designer, under GPL3/MIT.
Manual Installation Is Easy:
1) Extract the "tar.xz" file into your "~/.themes/" folder - to install for current user only - or into the "/usr/share/themes/" folder - for the theme to be applied globally. 2) Use GNOME Tweaks, Dconf Editor, or an equivalent 'Look & Feel'/configuration app to enable it for your desktop.
If installing manually, make sure to install the dependency: "Murrine theme engine" if you do not already have it; and update your GTK+packages if you have not.
Logging out and then logging back in may be necessary on some operating systems to fully implement themes and icons.
If installing manually, make sure to install the dependency: "Murrine theme engine" if you do not already have it; and update your GTK+packages if you have not.
23-11-05: Version 2.2.3
This update re-colors elements of the shells' app menu. Here, the hovered over text vis-a-vis app category now presents a slightly desaturated and bolded rendering of the individual theme flavor's (lighter) accent color. This tweak both beautifies and and increases contrast of the effected elements. This enhancement was pushed to all five Arc-Darkest color variants. Comment: b83669f

10 I read you reviews on a lot of the mag and they it is so good... and said here we go. I have been a trying to have a good dark theme and tis id it! verys good and pretties. Thank you man!!
10 is appropriate because there is nothing wrong with this theme, it still works as expected, and looks awesome! However, you all have not updated it in 3 months. I love theme-hopping via rtl88-themes, but I want to make sure this one is still in development before I become too attached. Thanks as always!!
@mertens-stijn-91 Thank you for all the input; I wanted to place that one back in testing to make sure there weren't any genuine issues. Everything looks normal, so, I believe we should be pushing an update before the end of the day (Tue the 18th). We appreciate your loyalty! Randall Lewis
Measse, Fui gligg!!
Very nice, but the gnome shell doesn't seem to work properly with Gnome 3.36.2 in Arch. The colors in the System tray cover up the volume and then power/log out button.
That happens when the 3.36 version is not installed.
I am using the 3.36 version of the Arc darkest shell theme. Your other Material black colors shell theme 3.36 does not have this same behavior. I mainly enjoy the pistaccio and the colors match so I may just swap shell themes. Thx
I will still have someone look at what your talking about, and see if I can reproduce the issue, before the next update. No one else has had this come up, that's all.
@bry2k200, thanks for this rating, along with the one for the black variant! Again, if we are to discuss these options, you must send me a "DM" message. When you do, I will then be more than delighted to engage your probes. The ratings area cannot be for tutorials - that is the design of the messaging system here. The team leader has been clear with me on this. Best Regards, Rikard
10 Love the theme mate. Can you do me a favor please, I've been trying to change the panel in thunar/caja from pink to the panel color and have just the letters highlighted but unfortunately I can't find where or what file to edit. Could you please give me a littl guidance here? Also, I've changed the openbox a little. I changed the window decorations to be more like a mac, and I also changed the menu and increased the border size to make it a little more appealing. thought you guys might want to give a look at that.
