How to install: - Dolphin -> Preferences -> Services -> Download New Services... ...or For kde5 - move the downloaded open_as_root.desktop file to ~/.local/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus (create the folder if it's missing) For kde6 - move the downloaded open_as_root.desktop file to ~/.local/share/kio/servicemenus/ (create the folder if it's missing) Also use right click on the file > Properties > Permissions > And mark the checkbox next to the text "Is executable". or use $ chmod +x ./open_as_root.desktop
It does not work, when using it an error window arises that says: I could not find the «if» program

Hello, works great except that because I set my KDE display scaling to 150%, it scales Dolphin an additional size. I fixed it by adding QT_SCALE_FACTOR=0.75 in the environment variables section in the open_as_root.desktop file in the folders:
/home/user1/.local/share/servicemenu-download and
/home/user1/.local/share/kio/servicemenus
Would also be nice, as a warning, if the background color of any of the dolphin panels can be changed when using it in root mode. Any thoughts?
P.S. The user Dolphin works fine when I launch it and does not need a scaling factor in the command line.
Works great. One thing I noticed is single click on a file in root mode opens it. That happens regardless of my settings in 'General Behavior->Clicking on files or folders'. In normal mode it works as expected

2This service has completely messed up my KDE neon installation, to the point of having to use Timeshift to revert. The first time I clicked "Open as root" in the service menu and entered my user password, nothing happened. The second time, it did work (opened a new Dolphin window as root). The third time, my plasma session crashed and most KDE settings were destroyed. Not good! (yes, I know what "root" means, I pretty much AM root in my whole LIFE :D so I didn't do anything that has to do with having "too much root". The destruction ensued merely after simply using "Open as root" three times, without doing anything else.)
This does not work in Plasma 5.18.5 ,desktop distribution Russian Fedora 32 Thirty Two ,dolphins ver 16.12 . When running the downloaded desktop open_as_root.desktop, the error occurs :"unknown Service entry in the desktop file" :-( . Author did You check exactly before publishing that it works ???

9 Excellent applet for Dolphin
9 It's working fine now, with the KDE 6 mod, but I couldn't install through dolphin the way I could with KDE 5.
10 this is by far the best option for dolphin and root. works every time flawlessly for me. running on an old macbook pro 2013 with fedora 38.

A minor issue: Global Menu widget does not display the Open As Root Dolphin menu, although the normal user Dolphin does.

I have it installed for more than a year in kde neon plasma and it works stably, the root is dangerous if you use it by default, be careful
