Description: Astro Nerd Conky is for the astronomy lover.
Displays 3 different sun images (fed from NASA every 2 hrs) that alternate on a timed "slideshow" along with current solar conditions. New images and data are refreshed every 2 hours. The 3 solar images represent different solar conditions: flares, corona and sunspots, etc. and all match the color theme of the widget.
Lists the 5 closest asteroids by date of approach along with the size and distance from earth. The asteroid which is next to approach Earth is listed at the top with with lua graphs. Select between metric or imperial measurements.
Moon data displays the current moon phase, date of the next full moon, and the next full moon's North American Indigenous name. Displays either North or South hemispheres depending on your selection.
A small guide in pdf format is included which explains all the data and graph outputs.
Dependencies: Xidel (a small command line add-on for web scrapping) https://www.videlibri.de/xidel.html#downloads wget - included on most Linux distros.
Scripts are set as cron jobs to control data retrieval which makes this a very light-weight, low CPU usage conky. There is a bit of set-up involved, but it is fairly simple. I've included a comprehensive set-up guide for Debian/Ubuntu, CentOS/Fedora that covers every step.
Font is included and link to the background image is provided.
Yellow theme of this widget is on the way.
If you enjoy this conky pls do come back to rate and/or favorite this conky. Much appreciated!
There is no conky-all for Manjaro. If you install conky-cairo, you may have problems with empty lines in data files of this conky, so you may need some hand work to correct links. If you install conky-lua, Astro Nerd works out-of-the-box. It works via cron systemd service, or you may create systemd timers for each part of the conky (sun, asteroids, moon). Try /bin/bash command instead of the "root" command when setting sudo crontab.
