Description:
Release 5.06

This release finalizes updating icons. Though I did deprecate some Icons the next couple of releases will focus on the removal of all outdated, unneeded and deprecated Icons.

I have added icons to match new needs of the various Desktop Environments, in particular KDE but XFCE, Gnome, LXDE and MATE as well.

Several new Distribution specific icons created and added to the set that includes 94 different distributions. These can be found in the places sub set with distribution-logo and start-here icons.

This update adds several new action icons and a few new application icons to the set. All Ubuntu One icons have been purged as the service is no longer available.

Future updates will work on status and panel icon needs and issues as well as new icons. At some point there will be a purge of deprecated icons. Most likely at the end of the 5.X series.

Icons for Locales. (They are found under scalable/locales) These Location Icons conform to the ISO 3166-1-alpha-2 two letter country code standards for the naming convention, of which there are 248 official codes. All names are capitilized to conform with proper standards (I.E. AA.png) I used the flags for those countries (or areas, who knew Antartica had its own code and flag) to create corresponding Icons. Though the Open Desktop Convention does not include this in the Icon Specifications I decided this was important so that those who need to use Locale Icons will have them available.

There are 146 additional Icons that follow the ISO 639-1 two letter Language code standard. The naming convention for these Icons using lower case. (I.E. aa.png) These are styled to be used as overlay Icons.

The ISO two letter Country Code Specification can be found here (in English):

http://www.iso.org/iso/english_country_names_and_code_elements

the ISO 639-1 two letter language codes can be found here:

http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/English_list.php

Most Applications are now being seen when you first select this set. Some programs don't change because the program itself does not follow Open Desktop Icon Standards. You will have to manually change the Icon if you want a consistent look.

Special thanks to dimi67 and VCoolio for making several Icons for this set most of which have been included.

Thanks to cbowman57 for informing me of the white space bug. Which is now fixed.

The Icon directories and Icon count for this set are:

actions - 1164 Icons
apps - 3221 Icons
categories - 152 Icons
devices - 421 Icons
emblems - 100 Icons
emotes - 48 Icons
locales - 248 Icons
mimetypes - 696 Icons (added 331 icons for this release)
places - 480 Icons
status - 576 Icons
stock - 254 Icons

Total Icons: 7691

I believe this is one of, if not, the most complete Icon Projects available and it was a lot of work to do. Even if you don't like the Icons the set will provide a base for others whom wish to make a complete Icon set themselves.

These icons are REALLY nice. Thankyou!

Is a pain in the neck but one MUST make an account to download your files. I will not use it and found the icons elsewhere.

technoshaun

Hard to find a decent file sharing site.

One of the greatest icon sets ever! I have tried it several times on deviantart to transfer into our group. Unfortunately you are too rare on this platform, so that the request expires. :) However, if you're ever back on deviantart so please check us or better join us: http://linux-lounge.deviantart.com/ Kind Regards Lars

Works great for me no scaling issues ! I will be sending you the Buttons I have done soon, I am concentrating on the studio Buttons as well as others, you may already have some of them. but use what you need.

Wow! I have made a .index and installed this set ! AND I have made some Icons that were missing, All in all one of the nicest looking themes ! Very sleek and it matches my Black themes so well! I have incorporated this in to my new up and coming release! (Yes yet another buntu!)BUT thise one allows you (the user) to build your own distro! And this is perfect! Once again you have out done yourself my friend! KUDOS! on this, as well as ALL your fantastic contributions!!! Thank you Shawn!

technoshaun

Could I possibly get that .index and the the Icons you made. Would save me a ton o' work and help get the complete set out as well.

kenjite

The work you have done with this theme is amazing but the index included in this release needs a lot of work. The themes inherited does not mesh well and the scale of the icons are off. I have made an index which inherits Faenza, it compliments your theme well and displays your icons in the correct scale. If you'd like, I will glady provide you this index.

technoshaun

I've already gotten the index.theme file to work better but I'm still doing a bit of playing still. However, I would like to see what you have that may improve the current one as well. Yes I'm still having scaling issues in the Notification Tray as well. --Shaun

Missing application icon: [b2] Gmail Notifier

dimi67

I suppose you going to make the icon theme with gnome foot next to the applications menu on the top panel, which is the right thing to do. Can you make another version with debian swirl instead of gnome foot. It will be nice for debian users like me.

technoshaun

I have already made several distribution specific Icons for that purpose and Debian is among them. Just to update you, and everyone else I have just over 200 mime icons left to do.

dimi67

Can't install it on Debian lenny.

technoshaun

This is not installable yet. There is no theme.index file so it won't install. This is an alpha state which means its only released so others can get eyes on it and find missing icons or other issues.

dimi67

Sorry,i didn't see that.I looked at the icons and i noticed some missing application icons :Qnext,LightScribe(SimpleLabeler), Gizmo5,Netscape Navigator,HandBrake,Miro Internet TV, WxCam,Vuze,Songbird.

technoshaun

Netscape Navigator and Songbird are purposely left out. Netscape is no longer a valid project and Songbird is no longer being developed for Linux (Though there is a separate branch under a different name, I'll find out what it is and add that.) As for the others I'll add those in the next release once I get the mimetypes done.

Hello I have checked your theme. thank you for your work. first thing that is missing is file called index.theme - this is importand, because not every one knows how to write it, and without this file theme won't work. Another thing I have experienced missing folder icons and some mimetypes. Missing apps icons: bashstyle-ng, catfish, manager, mousepad, orage, fotoxx, gtkam, picasa, google-earth, printoxx, tux-paint, viewnior, tuxpaint-config, jalbum, audacious, minitube, minitunes, openshot, musescore, pytube, qnapi, radiotray, realplayer, xfburn, xfmedia, jdownloader, kadu, linphone, sflphone, ooowriter, wicd, zoiper, grsync - and all xfce apps: xfce4-about xfce4-keyboard-settings xfce4-panel xfce4-power-manager-settings xfce4-settings-manager xfce4-accessibility-settings xfce4-kiosk-query xfce4-popup-clipman xfce4-screenshooter xfce4-taskmanager xfce4-appearance-settings xfce4-mixer xfce4-popup-menu xfce4-session xfce4-tips xfce4-appfinder xfce4-mouse-settings xfce4-popup-notes xfce4-session-logout xfce4-volstatus-icon xfce4-clipman xfce4-notes xfce4-popup-places xfce4-session-settings xfce4-clipman-settings xfce4-notes-settings xfce4-popup-windowlist xfce4-settings-editor xfce4-display-settings xfce4-notifyd-config xfce4-power-manager xfce4-settings-helper
