Description: This is a Linux port of Michiel de Boer's amazing cursor design. He presented it in a brilliant video in 2018: "Posy - Mouse Cursor History (and why I made my own)" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YThelfB2fvg) The original work can be found on his website, michieldb.nl, as well as installers for Windows: http://www.michieldb.nl/other/cursors/
As the cursor designs were originally made for Windows, they are hard to find for Linux. Also, keep in mind Linux cursors do not work the same as Windows', therefore you might find some scenarios where the displayed cursor do not seem appropriate. I am aware of this, though, not being the original designer, I cannot do much. I tried fixing most cases by reusing already existing cursors. Feel free to leave a comment here and eventually make a PR if you found a weird scenario like this.
This cursor includes the following sets: - Posy's Cursor (upscalable to 125% and 175%) - Posy's Cursor Black (upscalable to 125% and 175%) - Posy's Cursor Mono - Posy's Cursor Mono Black - Posy's Cursor Strokeless
Some of them use cursors form the Extras set: the black (classic size) and mono black ones use the black hand and the inverted move cursor. The cursor sets are available in many sizes: 32, 48, 64, 96 and 128 pixels.
1.6 UPDATE: Added the 125% and 175% white and black sets.
1.5 UPDATE: Removed spaces and single quotes in the files to prevent breaking and misbehavior. Many thanks to @SoftExpert and @aironsouza on GitHub for warning me about this!
1.4 UPDATE: Fix wrong cursor being displayed on foreground wait (the pointer with the hourglass was shown instead of the big hourglass). Thanks to @imreverse for letting me know! Also added a few new cursor aliases which should help to reduce the event of an old cursor being displayed.Last changelog:
8I really like the design of this cursor set, much better than the Breeze light cursor set I was using on KDE Plasma 5.25 but for some reason I keep seeing the standard x11 system cursor show up instead in GTK programs such as Mozilla Thunderbird and in OpenGL programs such as Steam and Counter Strike: Global Offensive rather than this cursor set for some reason...
I encountered the same issues for a while but now I am git cloning my GitHub repository directly into the ~/.icons folder (I'm using KDE) and it works perfectly. I think downloading my build via the GUI's tool breaks it, but I don't understand why...
I am sorry I cannot be more helpful. You could try installing the cursors directly from source (GitHub) if you did not already try.
I just tried installing from GitHub by downloading the source file as ZIP, extracting it, packaging some of the folders as .tar.gz and installing them via the KDE settings application and the first problem I see (after removing the original installation) is the hand is now the Breeze Dark hand on all the cursor types and on all bar the strokeless model the standard cursor (the arrow pointing upper-left) is also the Breeze dark default and I still see the X11 standard cursor in software such as Mozilla Thunderbird although I also get this when switching back to Breeze Light cursor so it may be a Thunderbird problem. I also tried installing directly from the settings app and got the same problem. And to add insult to injury, I also directly copied over the folders to ~/.icons/ and got the same problems
Wow, thank you for taking the time to try all of these things!
What you describe with the cursors not being from the right set is the same thing we observed with another user when installing via KDE settings (via the "Get more cursors ui..." button): https://github.com/simtrami/posy-improved-cursor-linux/issues/2
\n\n
However, I'm surprised you did not obtain a better result when copying the folders from the GitHub source to the ~/.icons/ folder (after removing its content) and activating a set via KDE settings (they should appear in the sets list). Maybe you should restart your apps like Thunderbird after the activation? or even reboot your PC?
9Whatever you did in the new update messed up the cursors, its showing the adwaita link cursor instead of the curved windows 10 like hand. other than that, everything seems to be working alright. Could you fix the adwaita link cursor from showing up? Please and thank you
Hello ryanorionorionryan, thank you for telling me about the issue you're having.
I think I know why you are experiencing this, and it does not come from the update, but it still need to be fixed. In order to troubleshoot this correctly, could you specify which of the six cursor files you are using (if it's the "All cursor sets", which set did you enable)? Also, can you tell me what GUI you are using (Gnome, KDE, Cinnamon...) as well as if you already used the Adwaita cursor set you mentioned (I had to Google what it was)?
You could do this in a reply, although I would 100% prefer if you opened an issue on the set's Github page : https://github.com/simtrami/posy-improved-cursor-linux/issues as I would like to keep the troubleshooting stuff in only one place. Once it is resolved, I will post the resolution here, in a reply.
Thank you very much for your help and time !
10I have been looking for years for a linux port, I even contacted Posy himself to no avail. Thank you Simtrami and thank you youtube algorithm for trending this video!
found this at the top of gnome-look when i went to the page after watching posy's video, super funny coincidence! thanks for porting it over, its a lovely design and its rly cool to see creators work get shared across systems alongside proper crediting and respect :)
I did the same thing two days ago after watching the video, except there were no cursors ^^' I'm glad the port works fine on Gnome too! Do not hesitate to create an issue on GitHub if there is something amiss :)
10Loved it, though I'm not sure why on KDE I'm not getting the full hour glass when something is loading. I'm getting the cursor with the small hourglass. Other than that cursors are really cool! Thanks for porting them!
Hi again!
I see what you mean, and it seems that I missed it when I was testing!
I will push a fix later today if I manage to find the problem. Thank you for telling me

Thank you for the quick reply, I'll make sure to go over to gitlab and give you that information.
